Reading FC - a cautionary tale
« on March 23, 2024, 12:01:06 pm by wilts rover »
Fascinating - and frightening - piece here on the current travails of Reading FC - reckoned to be £200 million in debt. Who lends a football club that sort of money - they are never going to get it back?

Of most interest to Rovers fans, especially the ones telling TB to spend more money, is that the new Football Regulator has been brought in to stop this exact scenrio. Stop clubs being reliant on rich owners and be focused more on 'sustainability'.

What exactly they can do tho given they can't force this guy, or anyone else owning a club, to sell remains to be seen.

No paywall so you should be able to read it

I read last week he's sent 2 former clubs into bankruptcy his sister was involved. Very dodgy and beggars belief he's been allowed by the EFL to buy Reading.

The EFL prove time and again that they cannot govern, it’s about time it was taken out of their hands and run independently, it will never happen sadly.

Weird - if you google the article, it comes up and you can click the link. But I guess it expires after one use.
Google it!
