What a cart horse, how does he get anywhere near the England squad?

Clever and a good choice, give the opposition a false sense of security putting dunce in.
He won’t get anywhere near a start if others are fit.

How on earth is he ahead of Branthwaite in the pecking order?

Injury prone first choice back 4. Shaw doesn't even look like a footballer in physique.

Branthwaite a left footed centre half can’t get on in 2 friendlies. Tomori can’t even make the squad while Southgate persists with Lewis donkey dunk who he has seen plenty

I think there’s still a fair bit of billy sharp bias going off here

Not at all, if he hasn’t got the confidence to attack that ball with his left foot and boot it out instead of trying the awkward way with his right foot, he should be nowhere near an international set up

Yes he made a mistake.
Still a very good premier league centre half

He’s a good premier league defender but not good enough to play for England. Southgate should have been blooding Branthwaite or Tomori tonight rather than persisting with someone who isn’t good enough now and is never going to get any better.

It wasn’t a mistake, he had no confidence to take it on his left foot, it was the natural foot to take it on in that situation, he’s not in the top 10 PL centre halves

Whether you like him or not, he's a very good centre half. You don't get to play that many games over such a long period with alot in the top flight now without  being  good at your trade.

That error aside, he's performed well in his appearances to date. Maybe not first choice but a good back up.

Can’t argue with that DBR.
We don’t like Dunk coz of what happened all those years ago but he has had a very good career in the top flight.

Decent player no doubt but can't see the case for playing him at his age in friendlies when there are so many other prospects to have a look at. He's never going to be our first choice centre back, someone like Branthwaite could be one day.

But at the minute he’s picking players for a major tournament a few weeks away. Branthwaite maybe the one with a better international future, but for now going into a major tournament someone with the experience of dunk is a better option

He has had a good career in the EPL but he has five caps, has I think never been part of a squad in the Euros or World Cup, and this season is the very first at age 32 when he has played European club football. Ultimately it is a call for Southgate but in Dier and Tomori there are options playing at a very high level in European football, and in case of Dier, more tournament experience. People might say they are better or worse than Dunk but both have a better case on paper than Dunk.

He was brilliant against Scotland and with injuries and White off crying like a spoiled baby there's not much options. Braithwaite should have at least had a run out though

This is bang on for me. I can (just about) see the logic for picking Maguire given he’s playing again at Utd, his tournament experience and he must have partnered Stones 30-40 times together, but let’s not pretend that Dunk is vastly experienced at this level. If Colwill or Guehi were fit he probably wouldn’t even have been in this squad so I just don’t see the reasoning for playing him over Branthwaite (or Tomori, but seems like Southgate has made his mind up there).

Southgate’s eyes must be painted on, if he thinks Dunk is the answer! In fact, GS’s decision making brought into question, in particular, over these last 2 games. He was going to put Mainoo in the U21’s just a few days ago and he was motm v Belgium. The sooner he’s gone, the better, imho.

Picture this, last minute of the Euros final, Dunk pops up with the winner in a MOTM performance.
Do Donny fans celebrate ?

I certainly would do.
And me hound.

I was there at Brighton in August 2011 and it was a foul that should have had a red card. No question.
I had a grudge against Dunk for years.

But come on folks it happened over 12 and half years ago.
Lewis Dunk was very young at the time, has gone on to have a very good premier league career all with one club.
He got picked to play for England because he is a very good player. You don’t play for England unless you can play.
Time to move on I think. Holding a grudge for so long on a player who was only 20 yrs old at the time I think is a bit silly if not petty.

passage of time is no excuse - you'll be saying we should forgive Richardson and Weaver next as it was all over 25 years ago  ;)

plus - living a few miles away from Brighton - it's a endless source of tiny-minded vitriol that i can throw at the resident B&HA fans down here as and when required
