Season 23/24
« on May 13, 2024, 02:29:41 pm by DonnyRTID »
Season 23/24

McCann returned as manager, it was great to have him back,
he made some shrewd signings in defence, midfield and attack.
Cliff B was by his side just as he was before,
helping to coach the team us fans we do adore.
Most expected to finish mid table has Grant built his team & made the club stable,
but injuries amassed in quick succession
which had an impact on our progression.
January came and loan signings came in,
then from February on we started to win.
With 1 loss in 18 and 10 wins on the run
our season wasn’t over, it had only just begun.
Who would have thought in December 23,
at the end of the season top 5 we’d be.
Crewe away where we didn’t concede,
onto the 2nd round with a 2 goal lead
But alas it wasn’t to be,
2 early goals & a shit referee.
They won on penalties to our dismay,
we’d come so far but it wasn’t our day.
Manager and team have made us all proud
Playing slick football, entertaining the crowd.
So yet again league 2 we will play,
Promotion the aim, McCann’s here to stay.

A fair summary, Donny, and on the back of two and a half years of decline, despondency and lack of belief in the club.
But McCann turned it all around in one go and nearly got us promoted. It's history now, but just imagine what he can  do next season with a more positive squad, club, fans and a desire to win games.
