Totally agree about the recognition of the DDay veterans and all others who fought in the war.
Not forgetting as is often the case those who fought in the jungles of Burmha against the Japanese which included my Wifes Dad, The Forgotten War

Those commemorations today were breathtaking. The whole thing made me emotional. I felt so proud of those veterans being honoured, and so grateful for those that gave their lives.

A special mention also to all the armed forces, the musicians, the singers, the dancers, and all the readers, that put on such a magnificent, moving tribute.

I watched a bit at lunchtime and I'm not ashamed to say I cried. The debt we owe them.

Without making a political point, I thought Biden gave a tremendous speech. Exactly the right balance of humble praise & thanks to the vets, and a reminder that authoritarianism has to be faced down again in this generation. Precisely what I'd want to hear from an American president.

So you assumed that on a solemn occasion such as this, it was appropriate for a fussy and officious country to be seen to be checking passports,but not just of anyone but of the troops of a nation that helped to liberate them from an evil dictator.

And then you use it for political point scoring,

The people who took part in ANY part of D day be it planning, logistics , weather forecasting etc etc and all our Service Men and women deserve our utmost respect * now and forever.

Let's face it without them I might not be here or typing this in German. Charles as he read his Speech had a memorial behind him with names and ages on it. Almost every one in their 20s. They would have had EVERYTHING to live for and some drowned as their craft stopped in deep water and on orders they jumped off and were drowned as their kit was too heavy and they simply couldn't stay afloat. Some walked into a hail of bullets.

True heros every single one and in 5 years time most will have died. My total respect.
