Ironside departing?
« on June 26, 2024, 10:49:07 am by Branton Rover »
The Hollywood money men at Wrexham are sniffing around after Joe apparently and Parkinson has apparently targeted him as he wants to link him up again with Paul Mullin.

I’d be gutted to see Joe go, he’s been brilliant for us in the last year and I’d only countenance him leaving if we were to receive a kings ransom for his services. We do have leverage that he’s one year into a 3 year contract and that should be enough to fend off any approach.

Conversely from Joe’s angle he’s not getting any younger and a juicy Wrexham contract on big money would be appealing.

People have speculated that bringing Billy in is with the knowledge of Joe’s likely departure . I don’t see Billy as a like for like Ironside replacement as Billy is highly unlikely to play 90 minutes in every game whereas Joe is incredibly robust given that he only reaches 6ft on tip toes.

Ironside still has 2 years on his contract doesn’t he?

He fits McCanns style of play, he doesn’t want to do what Marquis did

The money Wrexham throw around any player that they want they’ll probably get. Paying Mullin a fortune aren’t they.

Why would Wrexham want Ironside seriously.
They have already got 3 quality strikers. Are they doing a swap or something or is Mullin or Palmer on their way to a Championship club.

Don’t see Ironside going anywhere. I think this is utter rubbish.

It’s all a load of b*llocks. Made up to see how much traction it could get online. Rest easy.

Won’t be throwing money around indefinitely I promise you. This will end in tears sooner rather than later.
Especially when they find it really difficult to get out of League 1
No way will Parkinson get them promoted next season or season after imo.
Change of manager again required for them.
They will run out of money in the next 3 seasons, realising the circus is just a bit too expensive.

He is not included in the 3 I mentioned Filo.
Fletcher is the 3rd one.   :)   Definitely not Waters   ;)

Joe is 6 foot 1. He got asked in an interview. Still got a hell of a leap on him and he’s strong as an ox.

I think Wrexham will look to be shopping a bit more upmarket than Joe though. He dropped out of League 1 last year after struggling at that level.

He also said this in May this year:

Not ideal if true but, I trust we will get the correct fee for what he is worth and an adequate replacement be brought in.

Ideally we move to an embedded system that means we can slot in players to that system when good players leave - and to be clear, we need good players to leave for big fees. That’s how the model works. The aim should be getting to the point where this can happen and you keep momentum by having a system that is more important than individual players. If a higher league side wants to pay big money for one of our players, then great.

They have FFP to consider now.. splashing the cash won’t be anywhere near as easy as it has been now

But, if they want to pay the fee then clearly he has a price and that's no bad thing ultimately.  But given we don't need to sell make it a strong fee, £750k+ would be good business.

Yes,But with us having another 2 years on his contract, the money it will probaly cost them for Joe will probably get them a better player elsewhere or similar for less.If I was Parkinson and had already been given the likes of Mullin,Fletcher etc I would be setting my target hopes higher than Joe now they have been promoted to league one.

On one hand £750k goes along way but the goals are priceless

The suggestion that Billy's been brought in to soften the blow of Ironside leaving is just nonsense. Usual suspects on FB peddling the conspiracy theories.

I'm not saying it isn't going to happen, as there aren't many surprises in football. McCann will know if there's any substance so he'll be prepared one way or another.  If they want to pay silly money and Joe wants to go, then so be it. Big IFs.

I can’t see Wrexham being after him. They’ll be wanting to challenge for promotion next season again and that’ll be mean they’ll be aiming for better.

Agreed. As much as I like Joe, he's been great for us, but why would Wrexham pay money on a 2/3 year contract, costing them a decent wedge, for a striker who will be 31 soon, & not been proven prolific in league 1. Think it's a non starter personally.

Ironside was incredible last year, even when we were crap in the first half of the season he was decent. In the last 20 years only Marquis (16/17, 18/19) beat his league goals - no one else has come close (I think).

I think he'd be a massive loss, Billy is good but won't play 90mins 46 times, Miller is good but not kicked a ball in a year and even prime George isn't as good in all round play and goal return than Ironside. Keeping Joe would be the best business of the summer in my opinion.

They could've offered him more money than we did and had him on a free transfer last year. They're clearly very reactive if there's any truth in this at all.

Joe came to us to be closer to his family home (Sheffield), he has also intimated that he is extremely happy here and I've also been told that he wants to play for us until his retirement. I believe this rumour is complete BS!

Plus him and Billy can car share now so both can save a few quid.

Would actually be a good thing them car sharing,  forge a friendship and a partnership

Absolutely no way should we be letting him go for 750k.

Nobody outside of institutional care is going to be offering £1.5m for Joe Ironside, as great as he has been for us.
