New Cabinet
« on July 05, 2024, 08:27:53 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
89% went to state school. Largest %age in history apparently.

Education Secretary had free school meals.

Housing Secretary grew up in a council house.

But yeah. All the same.

You mean the same Tories who told us to wash our hands more often and don’t let pensioners go on cruises, whilst countries like Germany were already locking down.?

Sure they did some decent things during covid, furlough and vaccine roll outs, but their initial mishandling was chaotic, the PM not attending COBRA meetings - and let’s not forget scandalous PPE contracts and party gate.

And not an ounce of experience between the lot of them.
It's going to be hilarious this.

You'd be the first crying when we were in lockdown.

After my Dad died, I was 10, Social Services came round offering this and that to help  Mam out. One of the things offered was free school meals at the time 6d a day 2/6d a week. My Mam went ballistic there is no way he is having free school meals! Mam worked at Bentley Laundry at the time.
Must have been a bit of stigma about it in the early 60's!

You know that's untrue tony, what the gist of it is, is despite their lowly starts they have achieved. Starmer is not going to put someone in cabinet just to watch his back he wants someone that can knuckle down and do a good job.

THey did a good enough job on the tories aye?

I once sold my free dinner tickets to buy some fags and got caught out because we were given big, ugly tickets just to make us stand out a bit more.

Great,  now remember when during the early days the idiotic response to a flu virus those nasty, repellent,  spiteful, unkind,  horrible Tories gave money to local authorities and told them to put homeless in emergency accommodation immediately.  Now Labour CAN do the same this weekend,  for the many not just for the few (the sub literal garbage dinghy invaders). As Jobbie O'Brien would ask , why won't they?

Do you want to have a chat about what the last Labour Govt did about homelessness, then what the Tory Govt did?

Have a guess how it goes.

Maybe people generally had more pride in those days, whereas they feel more entitled these days.

Or they didn't like being shamed by ignorant people that have never 'been there' that don't want to look after those doing it tough.

At our schools in Balby the free tickets were white. We had blue and the teachers had red.

What amazing powers you must have, to know how I may have reacted to something over 4 years ago.!!!

Actually I welcomed lockdown and abided by its rules.. did you.?

Perhaps you should stand back and take a look at what you post and realise what an utter bell end you come over as..

Over the next few years, every time you want to complain about something this Govt does or doesn't do...

...just remember, Nadine Dorries was once in the Cabinet.

No. Honestly. She really did!

Impressed with the appointment of James Timpson to the prison brief. Guy knows what he's talking about and could potentially radically change the system.

I was going to say send them to Van Diemen's Land  then had a brainwave  X-footballers often have problems adjusting to life  and often have spare time .

let's take the Leeds area and Armley Prison    how can we get some retired X-Leeds Legend*  etc to have some input to influence stroke reform

* or some Legend in another area of life   ...anyhow it's a starter to make you all think of something better

i just found this when i googled for a prison football team

And they will Bpool.

Without doubt they'll make mistakes. All Cabinets do.

No doubt they'll make suboptimal decisions in moments of crisis. Every Cabinet does.

The point is, what they won't do, ever, is to put someone as patently unsuitable as Dorries in charge of a Department.

Those of you who voted for the freak show that we've just got rid of, remember the standards that you turned a blind eye to before you launch in to criticism of this Cabinet.

Unfortunately my mother was too ill to work and my younger brother was a right handful! To help her out I accepted the indignity of a School uniform Grant, and having to queue for fee school dinner tickets in the special Queue for us the social underclass!
It certainly focuses your mind!

Come to think of it, I dare bet an Ikea cabinet will last longer than a Keir cabinet any day.

I was very active in Offender management under the last Labour Government and it all went down the pan under the Tory Austerity , I have kept all of my ‘recipes’ and I have the ‘Interlectual’ copyright for some good schemes that worked.
I am looking forwards to making a lot of money out of Labour!
But there is a severe problem with our Prison system
And sending folks to prison for 3 months after they have appeared in Court for a succession of 16 plus occasions for multiple shoplifting offences is pointless, you can’t work with anybody unless they have been sentenced for a least 3 years!
The last government rang the Prison service and told them to do something about the overcrowding so the MOJ rang the Prisons and told the Management to let everybody out of Prison who were 60 days from release, this happened and and approximately 2 months later the prisons were full again as they had all gone and re offended!
