VSC Debating Society
« on August 09, 2024, 12:13:36 pm by sf9944 »
I like a good debate. I have gone as far as to try and find a local debating group to join but without success.

I come on here to hear the differing views on the issues of the day. Like most people, I have fairly strong and entrenched political views but I always try to understand issues from different perspectives and I like to think I'm open-minded enough that I could be persuaded by a good reasoned argument.  I have learnt a lot from the off topic section of the forum and have enjoyed reading it over the years but recently it has become quite toxic which I think is a shame.

I wondered if anyone might be interested in setting up our own debating society?  Id like to think we could be a lot more respectful of each other were we to meet face to face!  We could agree a set of ground rules to keep it constructive.  Perhaps the club could provide us a space to meet?

Anybody up for it?

As long as the lefties can bring their own security to sort out any fascists who may turn up.

Sounded great until you said meet up face to face.

Ive a feeling that some on here meeting up face to face would defiantly lead to fisticuffs unfortunately.

Come to think of it i can think of a couple who quite a few would like to have a conversation with face to face!

I think you are all being a bit facetious, and nominate sprot, hound and selby to help kick it off.

I hear you but isn't that the point?  Surely we shouldn't be saying things on here that we wouldn't be prepared to say to someone's face?

I suppose I was appealing to those like me that would appreciate a respectful, reasoned debate.

Already this thread has gone down the usual route I see.

First rule of Fight Club.........

First rule - don’t criticise Labour
Second Rule - Criticise all other political parties

Is there a third rule?

But you've already called the forum toxic, I guess you've never orked in sales, although others have too but they can't stay away.

But you've already called the forum toxic, I guess you've never worked in sales, although others have called the forum toxic too but they can't stay away.

I think you've got the 'kick' and 'it' the wrong way round.  ;)

I think the forum needs a break from mass debating never mind taking it to the pub. Besides, all the lefties would spend all their time on their phones looking for favourable links or referring to that lefty bible The Guardian they came in with tucked under their arm.

Na, a few beers and a night full of pre-woke jokes for me every time.

If we are going to meet, could I suggest we club together and fly Syd over just to open the meeting in the right manner.

An admirable effort sf9944, but sadly it took only the first reply to drag your efforts down the usual toxic path.

Syd, you are way down the list of anything I desire, Australia is just about the right distance away as far as I am concerned.
Like others it is just the constant irrelevant noise coming out of there that makes me laugh, keep up the entertainment you would be missed by many on here as never before has so much silly clap trap has come out of one persons mouth since Lord Haw Haw (William Joyce) was hanged.
Anyway  The Guardian couldn't afford to lose one of it's few avid readers who swallow every word printed and spends too much time on here to have a useful contributing life.
Is the wife back over here by the way, one of those I would give a medal as big as a dustbin lid to, and how are the neighbours?

I get it selby believe me, I get it ........

''Check the directors of the well organised lefty marches  who provide the placards and flags, it seems some prominent labour MPs and Union representative would have a nice little financial  interest in the weekend marches in London carrying on as a nice little earner on the side.
Its a fifth column that has infiltrated government organisations and education and the judiciary, and are fixated on control the lessons of the soviet era and communism, and a lot of soft sods are falling for it.
The upshot will be that they will drive opposition underground just like it did in Eastern Europe and build from there''
