What about the other 3 defenders? Sounds like they all had stinkers.
Thought Sterry was off it today. Trouble is, no Nixon on the bench to replace him.

For me it's time Olowu starts with Wood/Anderson

Definitely he was the one bright spot. I've been saying since early last season Senior isn't good enough.

Was Nixon injured today? If not, that's a seriously poor omission from the squad by GM. Sterry's great going forward, but poor in defence when a team's pressing us.

Sterry couldn’t handle Kawma, he was good today  and dominated him, he popped up all over the front line and had some big chances to score. Not sure that’s too much of a bad comment on Sterry though, I imagine most league 2 players to struggle with his pace and trickery.

I agree.

Noticed in the Accrington game both Wood and Anderson too slow on the ball. Olowu can beat a press by stepping out of defence.

Olowu allows a higher line too with his pace.

Both these things now more important if we want to be the division’s dominant team.

Olowu is also highly suspect at times. Wood and Anderson the safe option.

Both Olowu and Flemming need to start after today’s performance.
Very flat footed in the center of defence today and as said, on their short cameos today both Flemming and Kelly look far better than Broadbent and Senior. Nixon/Sterry, position up for grabs.

He’s been very good when called upon since Feb.

His Wrexham (H) performance was one of the standout individual performances of last season.

Wood and Anderson are good defenders but if we aren’t dominating a game that means more attacks to the opposition and ultimately more goals conceded.

His Wrexham performance was immense, and was the man of the match for me, he was dropped from the team in favour of Tom, who did do extremely well coming off the bench, but Joe did not deserve to be dropped. Not had a sniff since.

Played well midweek v Salford too. At his age with his pace I think we get more out of playing him than both wood/anderson

I said before the opener that I’d like to see Olowu starting. Anderson & Wood are solid & dependable but are they good enough as a pair? I’m not convinced.

Senior did alright first half. He’s not as good as Maxwell but some of the criticism is a bit unfair based solely on today.

Fleming does look decent though on first glimpses.

What about the other 3 defenders? Sounds like they all had stinkers.

Sterry had a mare against their fast and tricky winger.

Anderson looked indecisive and not strong for him

Wood looked solid enough though one header was directed straight to an unmarked player in the box who should have scored.

Senior looked steady away and mainly held his end up, Flemming looks like he hits the ground running and make the position his own till Maxwell gets back to challenge.

Echo the Olowu comments. If we are going to be playing on the edge of our box then Wood and Anderson are about the best in the division. If we’re going after teams and playing high up they are going to look silly now and again. Olowu would play that role way better.

For me Nixon is better at right back too. Hopefully just some early season selection wrinkles in what is a very strong squad.

Generally agree although Anderson and Wood coped perfectly fine during the run. We know Olowu is good with everything in front of him and his pace comes in handy. He's just a little more unsure when he's turned going back towards goal.

The issue with Sterry v Nixon, whilst Nixon has the edge defensively, he's not as good in the forward areas, although it's something he'll hopefully work on. Sterry has a little more composure and generally picks the right pass/cross.

Yes it worked in that run-in but it’s waiting to get found out.
And with us being favourites, opposition teams will approach games against us differently this season.
