Are programs important

Just asking how important is the program to you at games.
To me it's all part of the experience and also when reminiscing ie looking at old programmes from favourite games you've been to.
Yesterday I was taken a-back when I wanted a program at Notts County only to find out that they will NOT be producing any from now on.

While i dont want to see the end of the program i also cannot remember the last time i bought one.

I might buy 1 next time just for the sake of it. What is the cost of them nowadays?

As I don’t go to many actual games now, when I do, I always buy one, perhaps more as a souvenir than for the material inside. As they are usually away games, it is also interesting to get their take on Rovers.

But, just like newspapers, the world of online data means anything printed is almost immediately out of date. And today it’s a “news now” world. So, as the mass market - the home fans - dwindles, so will the Matchday Programme sales, however glossy. Having said that, I suspect that the glamour clubs with their atypical supporters, might retain a market for the time-being.

Last one I got was Harrogate at home last season, cost £3 for 8-10 pages max. Immediately stopped getting one from then on as it wasn’t worth the money

Notts said it was on line but the internet in the ground is not to good.
This made me smile as their manager was a BT engineer before taking this job.

Its been a tradition since the very first game ever played .. it helps to see who your up against and read of those who pertain to represent you inprint when you never hear their voice any other way . From analysing the previous results to plotting our way up the league table or finding out who’s the fan’s favourites are ..its short sighted and treasonable to stop printing the bible of the supporters .. I for one think they should be free or priced at a 1p as there value is in the representation and the memories they hold in print .

Not quite true, 24 pages last season for £3, this season it's 32 pages for £3.
I'm a massive advocate of the programme, it's a piece of memorabilia specific to the game, I think there's things that could be done to enhance Rovers programme and it's not necessarily about more pages.
Clubs are getting lazy and using cost as an excuse not to produce.

I had a very large collection of programmes from clubs all over the country plus many cup finals and even amateur cup finals.
I haven’t bought any for many years now though.
About ten years ago I began selling the more valuable ones off individually then I got down to about 200 or so Rovers ones and someone contacted me to buy the whole lot and I included some other Rovers memorabilia with the programmes.
I enjoyed reading them back in the day but wouldn’t buy any now.

Back in the 80s I would get one religiously every game.  However these days is there anything in print which isn’t available online, player interviews etc, even if after the game?

Might get one for special events like play off finals (not recently.!) as a memento only.

My experiences of latter day programmes are too many ads dominating the content - I understand why, but spoilt the read.

Your website is a wonderful archive and it brought back quite few memories of the programmes in the mid-fifties where the cover which was used was very familiar.

The earlier ones, with the photograph of action from a recent match plus adverts were not, probably because I had no money to buy them in those days. In the 60s, we would nip out of work around 4.30 to get the Evening News or Post to discover who would be in the team on Saturday.
