Let's talk about the Everton game
« on August 24, 2024, 08:06:38 pm by selby »
A  game against a Premiership team we look forward to as supporters in cup competitions every season hoping we can cause an upset and make the headlines after the game.
Will we be sacrificial lambs  or talked about as heroes against a side that can play us off the park, but at the moment are bottom of their division and shipping goals.
It is game we can just go and enjoy the moment, while Everton have all the pressure on their shoulders, are having a bad time of it and will want to start their season off with a win as quickly as possible, but a chance for our players to show case how good they can be.
No doubt both managers will look to probably make changes Anderson for one probably to miss this one for us and a chance for McGrath, but I am hoping myself for as few as possible, and for once  Everton have more pressure on themselves than us as to what team they put out being under the microscope much more than ourselves from the media, and their team will be under immense pressure to get a good result whoever plays  for them with all the expectancy on them.
One for us to enjoy, hopefully do ourselves justice, and play with no fear and put in a performance that the club  and supporters can be proud of'
  What do you think?
  Can we cause an upset?
Do you see it as an important game, (I do I would like to think we project the club to a  wider audience especially the youngsters locally)
What would you change from the team today?
How will you watch the game, from an armchair or in the mix for the last time at Goodison Park.
Hopefully a great game in prospect for everyone to enjoy especially the younger members of our support, and lots to discuss about the game and guesswork about who plays, please have your say

Support will be awesome. That will lift the players. We ( on paper) should not beat a premier league team ( irrelevant how bad they are), however, there is always a chance to pull of a shock ( some lower league team always does). All I want is our players to go out, and put in a shift. Try there best. Irrelevant of the result

I'm really hoping we play several second choice players.

Might make a bit of a game of it then...

There are a lot of parallels to last year’s start for Everton. Both seasons they lost their first home game without scoring (0-1 to Fulham last year, 0-3 to Brighton this time) and then got thumped 4-0 in their first away game (Villa last year, Spurs this). They did manage to sneak another game in last year, a 1-0 home defeat to Wolves, before playing us.

Last year they made only 4 changes to that last league defeat, will be interesting to see if they play a strong team to try and kick start the season or make a higher number of changes with Saturday’s very winnable home game against Bournemouth in mind.

At this stage I’d hope we play near enough our first team (not that I know what that is; I don’t think GM does either which probably goes some way to explaining our stop-start start to the season). That should help bring some more fluidity and rhythm to the team and set us up better for Saturday.

For me it would be the same team that started today with Ironside back in and Nixon at right back to make us that bit more solid defensively. Think you could also make a case for either Sbarra or Gibson starting for Gibson.

i posted this on here after hearing it in the pre-match Dyche interview  I think he said some 18 y.o. kid would make his debut

Dyche reckons he is down to 14 players against Tottenham today so expect a lot of kids playing ???

I hope we keep in mind the important league match next Saturday against PV. The league has the focus for this season, and a cup run being a bonus. Grant has a strong side available to play PV next week, if not we will be well beaten.

I'll be cheering on in a bar in Gran Canaria. I'm hoping there's going to be some scousers in there, try and create my own hostile atmosphere.

The Everton players seem to have lost the fans, lets hope we get an early goal to make it even more toxic for them

Everton have an injury crisis in defence. They had to play an unfortunate academy player vs Spurs as Coleman, Young, Branthwaite and Patterson are all injured. Maybe Donny-born Holgate will play there.

Expect them to play Beto up top who took the game away from us last year with his pace and power that you can’t do much about. He will make Olowu look slow so keep Anderson away please.

Former Sheff Utd star Ndiaye looks in line to start too.

Need some physicality up top with Ironside against tough opposition. He went toe to toe with Michael Keane last year.

I’d play Hurst to run at and get in behind whoever is at right back.  I feel Gibson may be better centrally going forward. Good player but I’m skeptical of the balance of the team with him out wide.

Molyneux steps up for big games.

I’d go with:

TSL

Nixon
Olowu
McGrath
Senior

Bailey
Westbrooke
Kelly

Hurst
Ironside
Molyneux

*Clifton, Sbarra and Broadbent off the bench to keep the energy up.

We are playing a team that’s lost their first two games and will want to get back on track. I believe Everton will play the strongest side to win this game. They are premier league side who will be hurting. We go there do our best and then get ready for Saturday the important game in our league

If this footage is anything  to go by, I don't think the everton players will be too motivated.
We could be in for a famous victory here

I only want us to give it our best shot, despite them having a poor start to the season they are and should be better than we are.
But it is all on the night, if we give our best and even play above ourselves we could cause an upset and that is our part to play, all the expectation is on Everton, it's our free hit  for us and our players who can make a national name for themselves and enjoy the occasion.
Whoever plays just go for it.

"80 grand a week, yer f*cking w*nker".

He's got a point though. Some of those fans will be on poor wages, much of which will be spent on watching their beloved team.

I just hope there isn't a reaction from the players, or we could be facing a heavy defeat.

I’d play the same team that beat Salford, and bring on first team players when needed. We have to have a full strength team for Port Vale.

We have got what we wanted, a decent payday. Play the team not featuring in Saturdays plans. Our next 7 games in the league probably the toughest run we will have. No injuries and a decent performance would be the best result.

Would be good tomorrow having 70 % of City of Liverpool supporting Rovers then after we defeat EFC coming back there with only 30% supporting us

Just go and enjoy the occasion, just as I did the first time. We put up a good show but Everton were such a good team back then so 2-0 was a relief really but I was so proud to be a Rover.

These are what memories are made of irrespective of the result

I would think Dyche will go all out to get a win, they need to get fans back onside. It’s a bit of a no win situation for them though.
Lose and it could be curtains for Dyche.

I just hope for a good performance and the players do not over try, and burn out for the following league games.

They have a terrible set of fans. Get in their faces early cause a few errors they'll be all over their own team. Didn't even notice them last year when they came down here.

They think they have a god given right to be at least top half Premier league, never mind just competing .

Bizarre

McCann’s problem is knowing what his best/full strength team is though.
