Supporting vs goading
« on August 28, 2024, 09:14:48 am by DRFC_AjA »
When you're SUPPORTING your club you spend most of your time singing songs to SUPPORT your club

When you spend 90% of the time concentrating on the opposition and constantly chanting moronic c**p like "you scouse c***" or "dyche is a pedo" you're doing just that, chanting moronic c**p. That's not support

Eg it's utter cringe when singing "3 0 and you still don't sing" literally 10 seconds after they've scored

Yeah I agree. Was in the top tier and there was a gang of pissed up blokes, behind me starting all these stupid foul mouthed chants off.
They weren’t young lads either.

Always amazes me how there's a vocal minority of keyboard warriors who can't wait to slag off our fans for literally anything.

Atmosphere yesterday was great and was a credit to us.

Didn't hear any of that stuff in the lower section. Thought our fans were good overall.

A fair bit of "goading" but only light-hearted stuff from the majority.

The only stupid chant last night was aimed at Pickford chanting you let your country down,
Didn't hear the Dyche chant and I was in the top tier,  and they didn't sing tho did they. Quetest home crowd I've seen in along time

Heard the "You're going down" when we're 3 -0 down, seems very silly.

Anyone else getting fed up with the "We've got McCann" go to song being sung far too frequently?

Was in lower tier & it was 80% getting behind the team with a bit of cringe thrown in now & then.
& I love that Grant gets the love in, we're lucky to have him imo, let's keep him as long as we can.

Exactly my take pib.

Brilliant support on the lower tiers all through the game. A good balance of positive singing sprinkled with a little light-hearted goading. I actually enjoyed joining in with the "Is this a library?" song because God knows I've suffered on the other end of that enough times at our place.

I certainly can't identify with the comments in the OP.

No issue with the "your going down" when we were 3-0 down
You have to recognise we are 3 divisions below them, and they will struggle in the Premier.

A range of comments on X from the Everton fans, ranging from Donny support was superb and they could teach Fulham a thing or two, and Newcastle, to A pity all they sung were derogatory songs about us rather than supporting their own side.

Best balanced ones
Some bad songs but hats off to the tremendous support

Thought the support was brilliant, annoying but brilliant

So I guess it’s just what you prefer as every one has a take on it.

Though I agree the personal name calling stuff is abhorrent.

What was that ‘Your city is red’ about? I have far more respect for Everton than I do Liverpool. I thought it was brilliant that they filled that great old ground for TLOD and really added to the sense of occasion for us.

I agree with the comments about peesonal attacks in songs that isnt acceptable, however everything else that was sung was great banter and that is what it ahould be seen as. The support from our lot was immense and the best away day experience crowd wise since Charlton.

The gang of blokes behind me were just drunk and really eye wateringly foul mouthed and abusive throughout.

Hopefully one day football will stop tolerating these types of people and have them instantly removed.

And this is why I stopped attending away games - it’s moronic, stupid and downright disgusting

The support was excellent last night. It is part of football having banter with the opposition fans.
It’s football.
Some want us all to sit on our hands and just watch the game.
I can only imagine how proud the team felt hearing that great support.

Jesus some of the comments on here. It's nothing new, these sorts of songs were sung with venomous gusto in the early 90s when I was a young lad getting into following rvers away from home.
Maybe just go to church and step in line.

The roar at the end when the players came over was brilliant. Feels like there's a togetherness. Hopefully it inspires the players for the games to come.

Pickford England's best keeper since Seaman. Idiots was a small minority.

It's called banter, Pickford is one of the best at playing along with it.

Watching on tv there was a situation where Pickford was seeing a ball out of play in front of where our fans were and obviously something was being said to him.
He appeared to have a bit of a laugh with them and went back to his goal area.
I’m sure he thrives on interaction with the fans.
As for the “you let your country down”thing, I remember  it being sung to David James when he played against us at the KM a few years ago.

The fans were building up to the ‘you shit bas**rd aah’ bit expecting him to launch it upfield. So everyone was going ‘ohhhhhhhhhhhhh…’

He then purposely let the ball go for a throw in, laughed and put his thumb up

Sorry to hear that tommy toes.

I’ve had similar experiences at away games (Bradford City two seasons ago springs to mind, not to mention Rotherham) and it can totally ruin an otherwise enjoyable experience.

I was lucky last night, in the middle of a noisy but very well-behaved group of fans.

Yep, I was in front of that and it was a brilliant moment. Real good-tempered interaction between Rovers fans and Pickford and he handled it perfectly. It all ended with laughter and a smile and thumbs up from Pickford and he went up in my estimation in that moment.

True football banter.

Literally nobody sat down on the top tier. How it should be at an away game
