Kyle Hurst is the only player in this squad going backwards. Looks a bag of nerves every time he plays. It's a really odd sub to make especially with the other options on the bench when 1v0 up.

I didn’t think it’s an odd sub as I thought Gibson was really poor. Unbelievably though Hurst was even worse!

Didn’t enjoy the second half, thought we were poor.

First half good, not brilliant but good.

Also thought Gills weren’t very good, did TSL have a save to make? Cheating bas**rds too especially the lump at the back with pig tails.

Hurst got 10 minutes. Barely time to get into the pace of the game, and they kept doubling up on him. The Gills were clearly well versed in our wide threat and made sure they got extra cover across all afternoon.

We were great without the ball today. Very organised and defended well. Didn’t think we were as good with the ball as we can be but positive that we can beat Gills and Vale last week without getting out of third gear.

Gillingham look like a tough team to beat and also had some class players on the bench to bring on. Reckon they will be up there at the end of the season.

The only disappointment for us was that we didn't bury them in the first half, making for an uncomfortable final 20 minutes.

Good result against a team and style of play we have often struggled with in the past. Even in the last 20 minutes when they were on top they never really looked like scoring. We seemed to stop playing when ironside came on and looked for him to win flick ons which wasn't coming off and we gave up possession easily. Also felt Clifton should have done better on the ball in the second half, few loose touches which again gave the ball away cheaply but all in a solid performance if not sparkling

I thought we would look back on those missed chances and felt the game was going away from us at the back end of the second half. But, we somehow found a way to stem their bit of a go.

Young McGrath certainly came of age in that game (I counted one header he missed all game). What a well deserved motm award. Now comes the hard part - staying consistent.

The only thing that concerned me was how we seemed to get slightly worse after GM started making his subs. Not particularly Ironside, as he gave their cb a torrid time, but no other sub really impacted the game. We just seemed to lose a bit of control, particularly in the middle of the park. I’m sure GM will be looking at that. His presser after the game seemed to suggest he wasn’t happy how we dropped off a bit.

And finally, where the hell do they dig up these officials from? The ref was their motm, closely followed by Mr Can’tmakeadecision on the West stand side! Awful.

Gillingham always seem to come here with a game plan that involves plenty of niggle and physicality to stop us playing. The way the ref controlled the game allowed that type of play to persist and it had a big bearing on the match. He never allowed us the leeway they seemed to get with their niggling fouls and holding, not surprisingly when we tried to fight fire with fire we got called for it.

We had the chances to close the match out in the first half but didn't, we battled hard and managed to close down their most controlled passages of play. The defence was very commanding with good strong performances from them all, McGrath looks to be making the place his own and gets better with each match, thought Flemming was quietly effective in both defence and attack, some better control and poise from Gibson would have had us out of sight.

They came out more determined second half and with all the covering and harrying we had completed including pressing them often we eventually started to tire, this coincided with their best period of play, that we managed to control them without drama is great credit to out defence and midfield, all three had effective games, Clifton again a stand out with his speed of thought movement and tackle, the amount of pitch he covered must of been massive.

The last twenty we allowed them to come onto us, we controlled it well and they never really looked like breaking through, even when Roberts came on , in the past we would yield to this type of onslaught but we managed it very comfortably.

Very good and deserved win against a side who will be there or there about's all season.

Oh, and i would not mind watching us play that way against all the better teams in this division, we made them look very ordinary, something that all the teams they have played so far have struggled to achieve.

For anybody thinking this was an evenly matched or scrappy game I would happily invite you to watch that first 60 minutes again. I am confident you have judged the game badly. In the whole game we restricted them to nothing. In said 60 minutes the game should have been over to the point where it was a 0-1 win for them. After that we handled the game quite poorly although we worked our socks off, defended resolutely and were easily worthy winners

Exactly Nudga, a good balanced view of what we had. Thank god I’m not a Gills fan, who may have to watch that every week.

Grant has always had teams that can mix it up, I just feel we didn’t mix it up, we followed them and made hard work of what could have been easier.  Not sure either keeper had a save though to my mind.

Their keeper made two point blank 1-on-1 saves from Gibson and Bailey. He didn't save the goal from Sharp.

That's three saves he needed to make straight off the top of my head.

Their keeper kept them in the game with excellent saves in both halves.

I disagree, but there we go. I have the opinion that some only see the result not the game, and can’t see past it. Wonder what the thoughts on here would be if we drew or lost.
If you loved today’s game and would like to watch that week in week out, we have very different views on what we call great.

I feel my understanding of the game is good ta.

The way I see it is that this was an early top of the table clash where it was going to be cagey and not pleasing on the eye.
The reason I'm chuffed to bits is that we didn't get bullied and for 60 minutes we were slightly the better side.
Last season would have been a 4 nil defeat so again, happy to see the obvious progression.

When this team finds its full playing form, some teams are going to be on the end of an absolute mauling.
No I wouldn't want to watch that every week,  but we aren't are we.

Thought we were sloppy in possession at times but agree we were excellent without the ball. Overall a deserved win with lots of positives but also things to improve on. McGrath looks a prospect , he set the benchmark yesterday & if he maintains that level of performance there will be some interest from higher up.

Interesting detail from yesterday, and I don’t know if it was by design or not. Gills are a better team when they are up against a possession side so they can press and counter. They had “too much” possession to get the best out of themselves yesterday. Did we set up to let them have a good share of the ball or was that just the way the game played out? Not sure. It contributed to us winning though.

Good point well made.

We are now, much more robust as a team when it gets to that stage, in the past we would of been floundering towards the end and giving goals away. This team have the strength of their convictions to withstand this type of onslaught and also know they can hold it together as yesterday and prevail.

For all Gillingham's menace and bluster at the end TSL barely had to break sweat, we handled it very professionally.

Even if it was a bit more than we as fans wanted to see, sign of a side at ease with themselves and know what they need to do. Futures bright.
