Playing form.

IMO we are nowhere near back end of last seasons form.

Scary thought.

Also, GM is still trying to find a balanced team with still a handful of players still not at their best.

Imagine when it really does click. This is going to be a record breaking special season.

Wood, Maxwell, Nixon all out injured medium term. All three would probably have started or had a claim to start.

I’m very confident we will be the first team in the country to clinch promotion.

I think we will beat most teams around us home and away.

The chasing pack I think will all just beat each other.

Yes, we need to keep reminding ourselves it's early stages yet we're far from the finished article.

As frustrating as the second half was yesterday, last season, we could have lost that, as we could have with Morecambe.

Alot of matches we'll see eratic results as teams battle with the same issues. If we can just stay the right side of consistent then we'll be right up there but sooner or later, we'd expect to see a bit more quality. We can't expect our defensive line to keep clean sheets all the time, so it's important we are good with the basics further up the pitch. There's no room for complacency.

I thought the first 60 minutes was bang on end of last season form.

We were playing a serious promotion contender.

We scored, we forced two points blank saves, we hit the bar, we missed a great chance with Sharp's header and we didn't give them so much as a sniff of a chance.

I would say it was more workman like, heavy graft, loads of running and pressure.
Not so much the fluidity in going forwards.
Not a criticism BTW because there's different ways of winning.

I think you need to factor in the quality of the opposition Nudga. They will be right in the mix for a top 3 slot. Dominant displays against sides like that are what get you promotion. You don't expect Copacabana football every time you come up against a competitor.

Not quite sure what some want to see.

We may get the complete 90 mins of fluid attack and solid defence in a few games this season.

I hope we get it every time we step onto the pitch but I would happily take yesterday's performance every game this season and see us comfortably bag promotion.

We had plenty of games like that back end of last season, Wrexham, Walsall, Forest green etc etc

I think the two Billy's here are missing my point.
Absolutely no criticism of the performance yesterday,  I really enjoyed the game.
Total understand that we're not going completely roll over sides like Gills.

I am trying to say that I think we are in fourth gear, imagine when this machine really gets warmed up and slips into 5th and 6th gear.

I could give a couple of examples but some of you will twist my words into criticisms so not much point as I want to keep this thread positive.

So

This squad (and manager) is frightening.

Yeah I get that Nudga. I just think there's a bit of underplaying of just how impressive the first 60 minutes were.

I agree with this, I thought first 60 we were as good as we've been. They couldn't do anything against us as we're just so quick at turning defence to attack.  The opposition can be camped against us then three passes and we're in.  We should have been a few ahead comfortably by 60 minutes.

But I'm more impressed that we played the game to win it last 20 not being pretty. That will get us promotion.

Early days but we're already 11pts ahead of last year

Yes the rest of the pack will end up helping us - look at Newport getting hammered by Port Vale - having been to both those games I had Newport down to hammer Vale

Loved it in the last few minutes Grant and Cliff pointing to the corners for every clearance by Ted be it from his hands or a goal kick. No messing about playing out from the back
