Yes, great character and has come along way in a short time but seems to take it in his stride. To be leading more seasoned, quality players, who also have captained their teams over the years, could be intimidating but he seems to relish the challenge.

I hope he grows a bit more into the season on the pitch as I don't think we've seen thr best of him yet so far. He's seen the midfield rotate around him and we could debate whether his place is at risk based on pure form although it's very unlikely McCann will drop him given what he's invested in him. Maybe, he's still adjusting to the freer role he's been given.

What is his role this season? Due to work I have only seen one live game this season so can’t really comment but he seemed a little bit in no man’s land to me.

I don't think it's set in stone, depends who we're playing & who's in our line up. He has been the anchor, but more often he's higher up the pitch pressing & linking the attacks, Zain has been the one in front of the back line recently.

He's a great player, and seems a really good lad. He did the video of the trip to Portugal and came across really well, just a down to earth friendly bloke. Well deserved captain, a great utility player - could play anywhere on the pitch and would never let us down. He'll be worth a fortune now so glad we've tied him down - our best business by far finding Bailey last summer. Perhaps not hitting the heights of last year yet, but he'd still be the first name down on my team sheet every week.

What's not to like about this lad? Plays virtually every game, can play in a number of positions, works hard, brave, rarely gives the ball away, always seems to have a smile on his face and boost morale, comes across as a great bloke. What a great find he was. Hope to see him play for us for many years to come.

May have been a blessing in disguise him getting an injury when he was on trial under Wellens. We were in the perilous position back then & he went away and rebuilt himself at Gateshead and now he’s our main man and we are a much more stable club now.
