This season v last season
« on September 22, 2024, 09:44:21 am by Chris Black come back »
This season, opening 7 games of the season have delivered 13 points, or 85 points over a 46 game season.

Last season, opening 7 games delivered 2 points, or 13 points over a 46 game season.

Just gotta keep plugging away. Only slightly behind our target of 2 points per game.

Shows by contrast, just how remarkable the second half of last season was.

Ironically, if we are able to maintain the promotion push with a steady accumulation of points, it'll be less spectacular, maybe almost 'routine'.

Then again, we're Rovers, we don't do routine.

Someone mentioned this the other day and it is likely to be true. At this level you can have a decent or lucky XI and have a cracking start to the the season. The hard yards though come in the second half when your best player went in the January window, the youth loan got called back to the EPL and half your starting line up is on the treatment table. We’ve got depth this season.

Interesting - we weren’t playing well under  McSheffrey but picked up points, I’ve completely wiped the other managed from my memory bank lol

After Saturday we will have played all the fancied teams.
Pick up a positive result and we’re right in the mix with games coming up where we could easily go on another run.

What, teams like Harrogate and Newport?

Unless we develop a similar will to win, body on the line mentality as we did last season, no game is a gimme. We have to consider every team as standing in our way, and play knock out football.

Unfortunately, we're not quite there yet but the gap isn't as big as last season.

No it isn’t.

We’re 3 points off the top two.

Time for a little optimism & belief I feel. Personally.

Should and could have won both games in my opinion.

Once we start being a little more ruthless and settle on the best 11, then yes. I think we will go on another great run!

Thanks for that reminder Janso, my question to you though is do YOU  have belief that come the end of the season we will be out of this division?

All the fancied teams? Notts County and Walsall (who both beat us last season) are above us and so is Barrow who made  the play-offs last season. What about Chesterfield, Port Vale, Wimbledon and Bradford City? And do we just forget that we were unable to get past Harrogate?

The next 9 fixtures are about as tough as we could encounter in any such series and to suggest that we could “easily” go on another run based on 1 point out of our last 6 seems more like wishful thinking that an realistic assessment of our prospects.

I certainly hope that that we will do well, but the evidence is not exactly strong, so “easily” is not how I would describe it.

I am talking before the season started, us, gills, port vale, chesterfield, mk dons were all the top fancied sides with the bookies.

I’m just saying after Saturday we will have played them all!

Dead right, Mush, and we've already taken 7 points from that lot.

This season, opening 7 games of the season have delivered 13 points, or 85 points over a 46 game season.

Last season, opening 7 games delivered 2 points, or 13 points over a 46 game season.

Now at the 10 game mark.

This season 10 games, 19 points or 87.4 points over a 46 game season.

Last season 10 games, 8 points or 36.8 points over a 46 games season.

We are currently doing nearly 2.5x better than last season.

Lots of people say let’s see where we are after ten games,  and we are in the top four.
Only goal difference separates the group of four.
What is the next good landmark?
Twenty games?
