Tannoy System
« on September 29, 2024, 12:12:07 pm by GazLaz »
I know it gets mentioned all the time but it is awful and makes the whole build up sound tin pot.

Surely it’s something that’s going to have to be rectified at some point, why not just get it sorted?

Have to say the geezer on the mic doesn’t help. Speaks like a high pitched machine gun, no intonation, sounds like he’s reading from scripted notes all the time.

We had an announcer for one game last season, large, stocky feller. He spoke slowly (deeper voice than the current one, mind you so’s our cat) & was brilliant with the mascots before kick off. Asked more than name, age, who’s gonna win & scoreline (yawn). Also ‘threw in’ a gag about the opponents at half time completely off the cuff, funny but something no one could take offence at.

But yes, the tannoy is cack.

The new build up video doesn't work either - it cuts to a video of Grant at a meet the owners event and I'm sure he's saying something motivational but you just can't hear it - just stick to the goals montage.

Yep said the same about the video can’t make out any of the talking bits, actually thought the normal tannoy was slightly better

It’s gone past subjective (load of people moaning, as change from moaning about chips or queues or something) to being objective (nobody in any part of the ground can hear anything at any stage).

The challenge I suspect is this will cost many thousands to sort out and that’s money that went into the huge squad we have, a long time ago.

It really is annoying. Problem is, the quotes I’ve heard banded around are astronomical. It’s a big investment and if I were grant, I’d quite rightly say ‘give me the £200k + it will take to spend on the squad’

Then the tannoy comes back on full blast drowns everything out

It was way too loud this Saturday. Noticeably louder than previous.

Thinks that’s what inspired the post. Stuff like that should be great, just sounds pathetic.

Surely maintenance costs for these things should be factored into the long term financial plan when taking on a stadium at pretty much a pepper or rent. It’s probably a “200k” 20 year investment.

I've given up trying to listen now, just a loud noise, must be one of worst in the football league, & has been for a while.

I mentioned on here after the Harrogate game how good their sound system was. I could hear every word, really clearly. I know their stadium is much smaller than ours so maybe that makes a difference, but ours is woeful.
On Saturday the tannoy guy asked if we could spare a couple of minutes to watch the video but I honestly couldn't make out a single word.

And is it just me, but is the handing-out of 'heritage shirts' becoming a bit embarrassing? It was very hurried on Saturday and other than for the Glenn Kirkwood shirt there was barely any applause for any of the others. The trouble is, even when the recipient of the shirt is interviewed, you can't hear what they're saying anyway!

I wonder if we could do a crowd funding, type thing a big push from the fans to replace it like the old coin trail thing? It really is in dire need of fixing the pa at Harrogate was a million times that of ours.

It can’t be fixed. The whole thing needs replacing. That’s why the cost is so high.

We know it’s on the clubs radar to replace (that’s why they’ve got several quotes) but I doubt anything will do done until the next close season at the earliest.

From a safety point of view it’s not adequate, imagine a Stadium Evacuation is needed and no one can hear whats going on

My worry is it'll be done in the same style as the scoreboard maintenance.

Wait until it's fully broken. Have a full year with it out of order. Replace it at huge cost and delay with zero improvements.

I'm not sure how many times this has been discussed with the club, but its a very frequent topic!!

Over the years there's been minor tweaks and changes which have never really changed the fundamentals, and that is that the council signed off on a very cheap system when originally constructed. But when it comes to repair and change there's always a bunch of other more pressing issues, or so it seems. The Belle Vue Bar for one, the Legends Lounge another. The refresh and upgrade of all the concourses was again a key and expensive necessity.

Strangely enough its on my list again for discussion with the club, and hopefully we can work on something that might bring us what we ant. IRWT

Thanks Martin, good to know it's on the Club's radar.

It sounds better than Saturday I think. Best it’s sounded in ages.

Hopefully the club can upgrade it soon

Watching and listening, to an online stream, weirdly it sounded very good indeed. A bit too loud, but clear, and not crackly at all.

I have no explanation, but from where I was sitting, in my lounge, it sounded fine.
