He was excellent last week at Grimsby. Probably his best game for us.
How he got m.o.m. today I really don’t know.

Nope not for me. We need energy in there. Is it just me or does he struggle with headers? He's quite tall too.

Jogged along in unison with their goal scorer today, why he didn't get a leg in or take one for the team and bring him down i don't know.

Whatever he has on GM must be powerful. I nearly fell off my seat when Clifton came off instead of George.

I have to say I didn't think he was bad at all..... opinions though eh.

Thought both McGrath and Olowu were both very good, Moly was off it and not sure about Gibson - very average for me.

I don't think Broadbent is fast enough.

Saying broadbent was bad??

Thought he was better that the man who cannot do anything wrong (bailey) who of i remeber rightly absolutley missed tracey by a mile allowing him to run into the near post in the 1st half.

Broadbent cannot be blamed for that goal whatsover. Why would he foul and take 1 for the team when we had a full defence between the crewe player and the goal. If fleming never played a pointless cross field ball and then mcgrath just throw himself into no mans land then the goal wouldnt of happened.

I'm not liking this tactic of Bailey or Broadbent dropping between the centre half's to play a ball out from the back, which eventually meant playing it to a centre half to then play in back!

Pointless and very slow, letting the other team set themselves and get everyone behind the ball which then meant we had less numbers to break forward to attack then with?

Don't we trust our centre half's to play a ball forward to a midfielder to take on?

When we do this constantly we have basically done the other teams homework.

This game was crying out for Ironside up top to make their defenders commit and break down their stacked defence.

Broadbent was ok. No better or worst than Bailey or Clifton were. Our central midfielders are rarely stars of the show anyway as we are so he’ll bent on getting the ball to the wingers as quickly as possible. McGrath or Olowu were head and shoulders our best players.

The trouble with our system is that if the wide players are marked out of the game then we lose impetus because our midfield, without a Clifton type player are to slow and ponderous on the ball, if they don't break forward throughout the match and we have our lone striker marked out of the game along with the wide players then we are toothless in attack.

WE need a player who is proper box to box, can make up the numbers going forward and can get in front or alongside the striker, in our side today only one of the three was going to attempt that , the other two were stood watching from a starting position that was far too deep.

Makes us very predictable to play against as we don't mix it up enough, to me this is our biggest issue. The strikers will get their quota of chances and score, the wide players will do the same and our defence as today was sound, the only lapse was allowing their player to run straight down the middle, with our holding midfielders in formation.

I just would like to see an extra 25% effort from that midfield. would make all the difference.

I am another who thought Broadbent had a good game, is running straight down the middle at our central defenders a weakness, that's Harrogate, Chesterfield and now Crewe in the last few game who have attacked directly our central defenders at pace and just gone past them easily to score, teams will pick up on it.

Thought Broadbent was really good, narrowly beat McGrath to it for me. Bailey was poor but I’m sure he will bounce back.

Patrick Kelly will be a player for us when he starts and gets a run of games

McGrath all day long. Olowu also great today but McGrath shades it for me. Several times he had the ball, nobody seemed to want a pass so he just took it forward himself and got stuck in. What a player.

Didn’t notice Broadbent do anything noteworthy at all.

We massively missed Kelly today.

They neutralised our wingers and in doing so gave us space in the middle. But we badly lacked that quality to take advantage of that through incisive forward passes or runs through them.

So instead, they were comfortable in the middle and snuffed us out. McGrath caused panic when he ran at their midfield a couple of times, late on. That's what Kelly would have brought.

Broadbent was neat and tidy for the most part, but we need a bit more than that.

Controversial observation by me: said at half time that Close would have been my choice to bring on. He'd have had enough space in that centre to pick passes through the middle. And it wasn't the sort of balls out physical battle that he struggles in.

Odd that McCann picked him against a very aggressive Chesterfield but didn't give him a run today.

I thought we needed to be patient today, so knocking it around the back, keeping possession to try and draw them out was the idea, rather than going gung ho and giving the ball away too much. It's not easy playing against Crewe, who are very organised and can be quick on the break.

I thought Broadbent and Bailey played their roles very well. It was always going to be difficult for Moly, Gibson and Clifton to get the same space as at Grimsby, so we had to wait for the right openings.

The game plan was a good one, and apart from the slip up leading to their goal, we were stll the most likely to break through and could have easily won that.

How do we have less forward to break with? We push wing backs further forward by doing that, if we don't drop the midfielder back then the full backs have to sit deeper, so it's back 3 or back 4. Sterry interestingly tends to invert when that happens too.

I’ve only just looked at the table. Bloody hell. When we eventually click we’re going to be some team this season.

Everybody was sort of OK today but nothing special. Their goal was atrocious defending. Not much to shout about overall

But look at that table.

Pardon?

I think we were so patient first half that when we got to ‘the front of the queue’ we were saying ‘Sorry for pushing in we’ll go back & start again’!

There were no ‘openings’ coming from the midfield via Broadbent or Clifton so it was left to the wide players to provide that opening but with only Billy up front to receive, unless the midfield can find ‘that defence splitting pass’ to Gibson, Sharp or Molyneaux who becomes your ‘pivotal player’ to consistently provide that? Certainly not Broadbent or Clifton on any games I have watched them play in & please…..don’t get me started on Close!

So until we have Bailey’s nouse, passing, & ability to hold the ball up in midfield whist he performs brilliantly at centre back while we await the return of Anderson and/or Wood we clearly still lack a midfield player with the strength & vision of a Whiteman.

Thought Broadbent did ok, certainly wasn’t MOM but did well.
I came away from the stadium so frustrated yesterday at our tactics, everything seemed slow. Fleming has been decent the last couple of games but it doesn’t seem in him to attack, always seems to stop running forward and check back inside. This team is missing Maxwell so much - he defends well and also links up with the winger

First half they were all checking back, Olowu, Sterry, Broadbent even Bailey. There was only one player who was desperate to get the ball forward & that was McGrath.
