Fergal Sharkey at the river Don

Unsurprisingly the river isn't in great shape. Then again, I remember it when you could see the detergent foam and chemicals and it was still full of pollutants from the industry upstream.

No doubt it's a lot cleaner than it was. The problems now are more untreated sewage and agricultural run off.

It's disgusting RD ...............

This is only part of the reason ..............

''The mendacity we have seen from those in positions of power, in all forms, in recent years has degraded our democracy. With Keir Starmer pledging a ‘government of service’ to clean up the mess, the same media outlets that turned a blind eye to corrupting governance under Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak, now appear more than happy to fix a firm eye on the very issues they for so long ignored''

I remember, must be 20 years back now, reading that after all those years of clouds of suds all over the river, a sturgeon, I think it was, was found in the river. First time in a hundred years or more. If we're now back to what reads like a disaster area again, well done to the bas**rds charged with looking after the environment and to the bas**rds who have put greed and profit before absolutely anything else.

Later: Google implies it probably wasn't a sturgeon. It's not clear but it points that way. But my point stands: something came back to the river after a hugely long absence.

About 25 years ago there was a porpoise at Marshgate. Approx 5 years ago there was a Harbour Seal at Barnby Dunn!

I reckon Fergal Sharkey's River Don visit has strong undertones regarding its condition.

He wasn't there. He doesn't like doing what Fergal likes to do.
