Do we not have perhaps the best on loan keeper since TLT & Dieng?

Today in the second half he stood with thousands of City fans at his back, heckling, booing etc., & yet, when we most needed him to be in the right position to make a save in the last 5 minutes of the game, he turned a shot at the bottom of his post, outstretched for a corner.

His distribution to Moly on that far right hand side was nigh on perfect. Credit to Moly for anticipating it & having the skill to kill the ‘pass dead’ which time after time happened & put us on the front foot & enabled the front players to ‘explode’ into the City back defence.

His was one of many excellent performances today but I felt it worthy of its own thread.

Once again I think some might be guilty of getting carried away after one good win. Very very good performance mind. But we don't need to start with the whole "he's the best thing since x" business.

Generally this season I think he's been good and don't understand those who have knocked him. He's probably not another TLT. But he's also not Jonathan Mitchell. And that's all we really need right now.

Very happy he's gradually improving all round.

I think it's understandable to have had concerns about a young inexperienced keeper together with the pairing of McGrath and Olowu in front of him but they're all beginning to live up to their potential.

Looking forward to fewer bumps in the road as the season progresses.

Ive always thought he was ok. His long distribution is top class.

Certainly good with his feet. I don't think I've seen us concede so far and think wow he should be saving that. Which with Jones and Lawlor happened a lot.

A mistake is going to happen. Always will for keepers I just hope it doesn't happen in front of the south stand. The worst of our fans are in there.

Did the same against Bromley. Definitely the best distributor since Dieng for me.
Not the type to pull off worldy saves but you’d think he won’t be busy in that respect if we’re going to be at the top end.

Great distribution but hasn't been massively tested in most games so hard to tell but that's testament to our defence this season. On a side note I thought McGrath was superb yesterday against Cook , and pretty much dominated him throughout the game. We switched off after the subs and the brief switch at the back (which Grants held his hands up for in the interview) and gave him a sniff and got punished. But like I said other than that we stood firm and it was refreshing to see as in previous years we always seem to get dominated by Cook or the likes of Matt Smith

Agree with this but to be fair he is the best loan keeper we’ve had since TLT. Then again, he’s also the worst loan keeper we’ve had in that time

Good luck in getting praise for him, too many have had a firm stance on him, seemingly before a ball was kicked. Some serious humble pie to be eaten, which having been on these forums for a very very ong time, will not happen.

He is definitely improving, seems to be building his confidence. Was it against Bromley at home where he flew into a tackle outside his box, won the ball cleanly and wiped out the striker. Loved that.

I really don't understand the criticism he gets. I can't think of many mistakes he's made but also he's not been tested properly either. So I don't get how anyone can have a strong opinion either way.

He's clearly been signed for his distribution too and some of his passes yesterday were superb

He's found his feet now, and is developing into a promising young keeper.

He had a very good game yesterday.

My worry was he looked very frail but more than happy with him not let us down and as said previously his distribution is immense

I've been critical of him in the past, not of his actual skill and talent, but the sheer ratio of shots on goal versus goals conceded,  but of late I'm more than happy to admit he's coming on leaps.and blinds in his overall demeanor.  His kicking, positional play, and general keeper presence are improving by the week

Exactly. People immediately judged him as though he came to us with some equivalent experience to his two “rivals” for the GK shirt. Even so, he had attributes, courage and judgment and athleticism principally, that made him more effective than Jones and Lawlor from the start, despite being much younger than either of them. He is developing and is now showing some of the outstanding distribution abilty which made TLT so exceptional.

It is interesting that it was Grant Smith who excelled in Tuesday’s game that kept him out of the Bromley team last season when he was on loan there.

I’m becoming more and more confident with TSL as our ‘keeper.

He is looking increasingly assured and calm under pressure and had a great game yesterday.
He helped to weather the storm in the last 15 minutes and took the sting out of City’s attack.

And his distribution ….. the best I’ve seen from a Rovers ‘keeper since Sam Johnstone.
TSL will get an assist this season.

I agree that the current goalkeeper in on loan is the best goalkeeper we've had on loan since the previous loan goalkeeper.

On a serious note, his distribution is fantastic.

He is more than good enough to be our number 1, however is concerns me that he isn't our player and come the summer we will be back to square one. In Grant we trust and if he feels we ate better off loaning a keeper for the full season rather than signing our own then so be it. We do have other players we are developing  that have value in the market plus is rare you get money for lower league keepers.

I've still got a hunch we'll sign TLT permanently if we go up. Isn't he third choice for Hull? There isn't a third-choice keeper on the planet who isn't available for the right price.

TSL tho is decent and distribution is brilliant.

Some of his long balls are amazing, pinpoint accuracy, they should be used more often in games, we pose greater danger when he passes long, than we do from playing out from the back.
