Salford are a very tough away side. They’ve gone to Chesterfield, Bradford and Crewe and drawn in all of those games. Nobody impartial watching that would have said anything other than us being the best side. It’s not great we are struggling repeatedly at home, but Salford yesterday was not a team of mugs away from home. Far from that.
We seem to have a big problem against sides who play low block against us. Last year the problem was the high pressure, but we are dealing with that. Press us high and we have the ability to play straight through you either with Hurst in a deep No10 or playing diagonal balls out to the wingers. But play a low block and we just seem to hammer up against it without having the nous or the physicality to unlock it.Bit of hindsight here, and it would have been a hell of a selection decision, but I think starting with Hurst yesterday was a mistake. He was phenomenal in the previous two games, where Bradford and Notts C pressed us high and he was able to exploit the gaps that left. But he just didn't get that space yesterday. No coincidence that the more straightforward runs through the back line from Sbarra immediately opened up their defence.(Although, wasn't he a yard offside? Looked it to us, in line with the action in the South Stand.)

We weren’t in line but were in the West Stand so a bit nearer than you were.
