Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
« on November 20, 2024, 11:22:02 am by Usher wide. »
So Rovers in the last 32 and because we topped the group our next game will be at home in the competition against one of the following:-

Tranmere Rovers
Port Vale
Wigan Athletic
Aston Villa U21's

So who would you want & why?

I'd like us to progress the competition so I suppose Tranmere might be the 'easiest' team to play out of the four?

But I'd like to play Darren Moore's Port Vale. They're currently topping our division so it would be a good game against an in form team. A chance to hopefully 'put one over' on Moore is an obvious 'attraction' too.

The draw takes place this Friday.

Any thoughts?

Save Port Vale for the league encounter so out of those yes, Tranmere would probably suit us better.

Good memory dude.
Still don’t know how Kevin Noteman did not score at Prenton Park.

Take Wigan out, a good test from a L1 side.

When we played at Chester and got beat 6-0, Dean Williams got off and Colin Cramb went in goal and saved a penalty, Kevin Noteman was playing for the home side. When he was lining up in the box for a corner at the end we were at I was near the wall and shouted to him along the lines “ Hey Kev, remember Tranmere 2 yards out “ he replied with “ I know, I know “ and just shook his head.

Another name for the trophy

The Bristol Street Motors Trophy has been rebranded the Vertu Trophy with immediate effect

Vertu Motors has consolidated its three brands, including Bristol Street Motors, into one

Is there any other English ‘Cup Competition’ that has had so many different names?

Would you like me to run through them? Oh, go on then. But before you scroll down, have a think & a guess as to how many you think there may have been. A ‘bit of fun’ before Saturday comes!

Football League Group Cup.
Football League Trophy.
Associate Members Cuo.
Freight Rover Trophy. (At this point I think most of us realised this Cup could ‘go anywhere’!).
Sherpa Van Trophy.
Leyland DAF Cup.
Autoglass Trophy.
Auto Windscreens Shield. (See what they did there?).
LDV Vans Trophy. (Back on four wheels).
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. (Three Cheers for The Millennium!).
Checkatrade Trophy.
Papa Johns Trophy. (The Pizza Cup…..unofficially.)
Bristol Street Motors Trophy, which has now morphed into….’The Vertu Trophy’.

How many did you manage to reel off?

Is it me or does the perceived 'quality' of the sponsors continue to deteriorate over time?

Not that it was ever very high in the first place...

Was that in its very first appearance as a competition (not recorded in the history books) as the
‘Nay Mester Hardaker Cup’?

Aston Villa for my good mate is an avid Villa fan so would probably have a trip up and a couple of beers, and then travel back down to Birmingham dejected

They should've renamed it the Biffa Trophy to signify the fact that this competition should go in the bin.

Port vale

Yuk!

No c’mon,  It was my pick of the four. We can not only progress in the competition but can do so in the knowledge that Grant will pick a side to not only win this game but actually win this tournament.

AND the opportunity to show Moore who has the strongest squad, with the most desire & skill to win this game & give ‘them’ food for thought for the rest of the season.

He’ll be focused on the League, probably put out a weakened team keeping back the better players, not risking injuries.
