Mash. But only buy fake tea, because proper tea is theft.

I got a week long ban on Instagram for saying that anyone who makes tea by pouring water on a teabag in a cup ought to dragged into the street and shot, in front of their friends and family.
I also got banned for saying that anyone who fly tips ought to be dragged into the street and shot in front of their friends and family.
For me, the brew is made once the boiling water is poured in the pot.
The mash occurs in the few minutes thereafter.
Leave it mashing too long and you've stewed the tea and it is undrinkable.
Anyone who stews the tea should be taken out in the street and shot in front of their....... well I think you can guess the rest.

I’m a masher. However, mid mash, I put the milk in, then complete the mashing until it is the correct colour.

I’m not a brewer or a masher. I just ‘make’ some tea. Fresh tea leaves in a teapot and a China cup or mug. Can’t be doing with tea bags.

I “ make”  tea with a single tea bag, I have been known to use the same teabag for a second cup . Two and bit sugars, NO milk, I repeat NO milk

Sounds to me that you're making tea flavoured sugar-water there.

The two sugars I have in my tea aren’t heaped just flat teaspoons, and I read somewhere that the majority of people who have more than one sugar in tea are ex-smokers which I am

When I brought my wife to be up to meet the family in Thorne, she really didn’t quite understand my brother in law asking her ‘Aye, do you fancy a brew?’  She finds it funny and repeats the story quite often!!

Likewise raven, the 70's sugar shortage did it for me too.  Was brought up on two heaped teaspoons in tea and coffee and began reducing it half a teaspoon at a time until it tasted ok then another half teaspoon reduction, it took me a bit longer to give up the last half teaspoon in my coffee.  Now, if my tea is even stirred with a spoon that has been in a cup of sugared tea it  is ruined.  Anyone still taking sugar in your tea you really don't know how much better it is without.

I stopped taking milk with my tea when….a lifetime ago… the junior staff where I worked made tea for us. It was always weak, grey and milky. I decided if I stopped the milk it might be marginally better. (Yes I know I could have got up and made my own tea!!)  It was better but took a while to get used to ‘black’ tea. These days I love a cup of loose leaf Earl Grey tea, no milk, no lemon and no sugar.
I enjoy a coffee but not nearly as much as a cup of tea and Never first thing in a morning!

My Mrs reckons mashing is pouring the hot water on, brewing is letting it stand  before pouring

I'm with Nudga, if you're having a brew, let it mash in't pot.

Although, risking being dragged in to the street and shot, I love a stewed tea. Last cup out the pot is the best one - really strong and slightly cooler. Add a good splash of blue top milk to that and Bob's your Uncle!

In the colonies, America and Australia, they let it steep, I believe.

Not us, we ma'sh tea in our house. In the brewing process mashing is when they introduce water to the grains, I guess that's where it comes from.

My top tip is don't pour boiling hot water directly on the tea leaves, it scolds them and makes a more bitter tasting cuppa. Leave the water to cool for a minute or two after boiling.

Opposite for me, I started in office moving off the tools and always had 2 in tea. Foreman made first drink at 7-30  and then it was one on the hour every hour.  A week of 18 spoons a day meant it was either go nil or put 20 stone on

Hound and Danum - everyone tells me that’s wrong, but the only way to work out if your tea is how you like it is by the colour.
It makes perfect sense to me to add the milk and then continue to mash until you have the shade you like.
