Olowu

Thought he was easily our MOTM and deserved his own thread. Sterry & particularly Senior were very good but Olowu was a cut above, long may it continue.

He’s been brilliant this season. His pace helps, he’s absolutely rapid.

He has been consistently good all season
M.O.M. today without question. I think everyone who was there at the match would agree.

Joe’s come on leaps & bounds this season. Now he can step up even more with Tom by his side for the next couple of games.

Not a bad ‘substitute’ for a back four pairing.

He's ace and overtook Maxwell for me as our most valuable player.

Maxwells fitness issues are a concern aren’t they. Wasn’t fit yesterday.

Olowu is surely one of the best defenders in the division, his pace has saved the day a few times and he seems to have ironed out the occasional concentration lapses that he was prone to when he first joined us.
Maxwell also one of the most skilful. He probably just needs a game or 2 more to get back to his best form.

I say it all the time and I’ve said it regarding Olowu. You see how good players really are after 100 games or so at a decent level. Need to somehow get games into Faulkner so he can develop also.

Need to extend his contact ASAP, Faulkner is conference north at best.

Really. Think some were saying that about Olowu not that long ago.
How you can say that about a lad of 20 yrs of age who hasn’t had the opportunity to play at League level on consistent basis yet is quite ridiculous imo.
We have no idea how good Bobby Faulkner can be yet. The fact is he is down the pecking order at present with 4 centre backs in front of him. I expect Woody will not be with us next season especially if we go up to League 1 so Booby may get some opportunities to play next season.

Disagree with you there, Anderson is poor nowadays. I'd drop Bailey back there

Think you missed Gaz's point.  We all thought Olowu was not very good but having had a long run in the team he has proved otherwise.

Perhaps given the opportunity Faulkner would do the same.

100 games is a lot though.  Has to be worth that investment in the managers eyes.  Not sure Grant see's enough in Faulkner.  I guess we'll see.

I know the forum is about opinions but far too many of these sweeping statements on here.....

So and so is rubbish.  This other one is brilliant.  We write players off far too early.  In some cases after just a couple of bad games.

I have faith in McCann to pick a good player.  Importantly also one that fits into the way he wants his team to play.

Personally I think he's using his big squad very effectively which is a big factor in the good morale which is obvious.

100 games is a lot but it doesn’t have to be in our first team though does it.

Olowu has always had it in him to be a great player at this level at the very least, but until this season he’s been prone to one a game howler.
This season he’s cut that out and is now everything you want and more in a centre half.
Some of his last ditch tackles are brilliantly timed.

I actually thought omg , oh no !, when he was squatting looking injured

Hypothesizing how we would cope with our top bloke crocked and how long would he be out.

Luckily he bounced back with a deserved MOM award.

Great to watch his blocks , positional play , anticipation and once or twice a game the upfield bursts.

. Anderson doesn’t look the part he’s what I call a stopper, he’s not stylish but he can do the job. Every team needs one.

Nobody knows how good Bobby can be yet and that is said about all the players.

He has the heart of a lion, but lacks quality on the ball and that is something no matter how much training, can be drastically improved. I really hope he proves me wrong though.

It's great to see Joseph fulfilling his potential. Long may it continue. He's had his share of injuries, particularly that facial injury which must have played on his mind, but he seems to have overcome those worries.

Joe Wright was similar in never being able to get properly settled. Bags of potential with the odd gaff in him but couldn't get an extended run of games to iron those out. He's probably having the best run in his career so far in Scotland. Now a more mature footballer fulfilling his potential.

He could well be in demand elsewhere, but he has become so pivotal that a standard offer may not be enough. It’s taken a long time to get the back line reliable and it needs to be preserved at a cost if necessary.

All the defensive line were really good. As McCann touched on in his interview the early booking hindered Maxwell. It seemed that every full blooded challenge was a yellow card and it’s a joke. Can we not appeal McGraths first booking? I watched the game in the airport in and had the pleasure of a close up replay and he just read where the striker was going and got his body in. So I hope the club look at that.

Right to point out Olowu. I will happily continue to preach I was wrong about him. Absolutely faultless again.

Yellow cards can't be appealed. I don't think that's fair, but those are the rules.

Just to be an absolute pedant, yellow cards can be appealed - but only in the case of mistaken identity  :chair:

We really need to get him signed up, else we’ll lose out on a lot of money.
