Chilled

I get the frustration but I’m pretty chilled.

Still very much in the mix, a tough couple of matches and then today which was a complete lottery.

A decent unbeaten run continues and compared to last season were grinding out results.

On to Tuesday.

As long as we're in touch in February position today is irrelevant. I'm with you Philsky.

Do you have any advice on how to avoid anxiety in the meantime?

No sadly... But stressing about it achieves nothing except higher blood pressure. So I've joined Philsky's clan :) :)

I need to chill out because my blood pressure and heart rate must be going sky high during a game.
I was really stressed for hours after the final whistle yesterday and still feel stressed this morning.

I don’t understand GM’s tactical plan. I am confused.
Why does he not tell Molly and Gibbo to swop sides for some of the game. Is it any wonder Ironside isn’t scoring goals. He doesn’t get any crosses to feed off.
The most dangerous ball is from the byline. FACT. The basics of a game of football hasn’t changed over the decades or have I missed something?
Where was the balance of our team in the 1st half yesterday?
If we play with Joe and Billy we have to play either 3-5-2 or 4-4-2
It won’t work doing what we played in 1st half yesterday and it showed big time. What were we playing?
Why is Maxwell starting? He is obviously way off the pace at present.

Lots of questions which are frustrating the life out of me at present.

We should be 5/6 points clear at top of this league.
The fact we are not is imo self inflicted.
Having said that it is where we are after 46 games that counts.
I am not concerned we are not top at present just concerned we are not top because we really should be.

If GM sorts it out and implements a plan that utilises our squad to it full potential then we will win consistently home & away and win this league. I am very confident we are capable of achieving that goal of being Champions but GM’s tactical acumen is worrying me.

Ist half yesterday was bizarre and it’s not been the only time.
I have faith he will get it right but I hope it happens imminently and not left too late.

Yes it’s easy being a manager from your seat in the stand and your arm chair at home but some of what I and many of us I think can see is so glaringly obvious, it’s worrying.

Stress out Paul it’s just a game of football I keep telling myself.
Trouble is it’s much more than that to me and so many of us.
It’s our passion.

As for the Refs, well as said in another thread, don’t get me started.
How many points have they cost us and I am trying to look at it through objective unbiased eyes.

Long season brother. Good squad, moving in the cup competitions and right in the mix in the league.

They played at home on Tuesday and we played away in awful conditions on Wednesday; after 120 minutes away on a proper heavy pitch the previous Sunday.

We did lose any ground on those around us in reality.

We were 17th this time last year.

We'll be ok.

Camps, if you were still stressed out for hours after the game you need to miss a few games mate.
It definitely won’t be good for you in the long term.
We all get wound up during matches and the passion, anger and sheer joy is part of going to watch the Rovers.
For me, when the game ends I rewind to “normal” mode and although we discuss the game on the way home that’s it.
If I was still stressed hours later I would be quite concerned.

That’s not the point I am making though philsky.
You’re right but there are concerns that need addressing. If they are not addressed we could miss out on not just on being Champions but top 3

Even when we win 3/4 nil at home or away it takes me several hrs to switch off.
Got home at 1.00 am on Thurs morning but still couldn’t sleep for an hour.  ;)
We are all different hound, I wish I could switch off but I never have been able flick a switch.

hound missing a few games will make me even more stressed I promise you.
Sat at home shouting at the TV screen is not good.
At least when I am at the match I am not the only one screaming.

I have never been to every match home & away in all competitions in one season but my plan is to achieve that this season. No hols planned so I could do it.

As said already.  It's a long season.  Twists and turns and all that.

I think we will go up simply because I haven't seen a better team than us all season really.  Results haven't matched performances.  Also because our deep squad will work more and more to our advantage as the season goes on.  Also because I think we have the best manager in the league.  Also because I think we will strengthen an already very strong squad in January.  So many more reasons to feel optimistic than not.

If we don't go up we'll have another go next season :-)

Just to make it clear, I am very optimistic. I think we will go up and I still think we will be Champions.
I am just concerned about the tactical plan and we are not utilising particularly Molly & Gibbo effectively enough to give Joe and Billy the service they need to score more goals.
What was that plan 1st half yesterday?

Yes we have had a very tough week playing 3 games in 7 games
( Sun to Sat ) in very tricky conditions.
I know allowances need to be made.

Some of the team need a rest on Tues v Port Vale in the Vertu Cup.
Yes we want to win but rest Olowu, Bailey, Molly and probably Hurst ( may not be fit anyway )

Possible team:
Lawlor
Nixon/Emmanuel, Anderson/Wood/McGrath, Maxwell/Fleming
Westbrooke, Kelly/Close, Clifton.
Sharpe/Ironside ( 45 mins each ) Sbarra/Gibson/Yeboah

Williams is a possible as are couple of the other younger lads.
Bench
Teddy, Senior, Faulkner ( if fit )  Broadbent, Gibson/ Yeboah, Sharp/Ironside and youngsters

I would give Olowu, Bailey and Molly a complete rest. Those 3 have played the most 90+ min games

I get really wound up in games particularly when refs don’t deal with blatant time wasting.
We certainly aren’t firing on all cylinders at the minute definitely not at home, swap a couple of our home draws for wins and we are top.
I think there will be a few changes in the transfer window and hopefully Moly’s goal gets his confidence back

Agreed and that's part of the reason that I'm chilled.....

Grant will continually push for improved standards rather than rest on his laurels.  I believe he will get it right.  So I'm chilled.

With the games in hand that MK, Wimbledon and Crewe have we’re not really in 3rd place are we? The good thing is that there is a gap appearing between 7th and 8th so we will be there or there abouts all season. But we need autos.

2 of our next 3 games are as tough as they get - Wimbledon and Walsall away. Both are resolute defensive teams that are very hard to break down. We struggle against such teams. They are settled sides with consistent tactical set ups.

I can’t believe after 3-5-2 worked so well midweek that McCann decided to change it again to something completely new and different. We have a big enough squad to give players a rest and still set up the same.

The fact that we catapulted up the table last year is now irrelevant.

The only part of that post I disagree with is the 1st paragraph, because games in hand are not guaranteed points, and this is a bloody hard league in which to win games.

However, I totally agree with all the rest of the post. When I saw the team sheet on Saturday, my first reaction was "If it's not broken, why try and fix it?".
