Do the R'sonists still exist?
« on December 16, 2024, 05:04:01 am by BobG »
Sat sitting for bloody hours in Bogota airport waiting for my delayed flight. Amongst the many random thoughts that have crossed my mind was 'Are the R'sonists still in existence'? If they are, do they still go to WorldNet? I've got a photo at home of somebody dressed up as 'Blockton Brown' (a reference to Flockton Grey of course) the first time the R'sonists attended - just after we fell out of the FL. Alan Brown was there, Tisso I think too but I fear I can't remember everyone else. Apologies to you all.

The R'sonists did very well that first time. Semi final maybe?

Cheers

Hi Bob,

Yes they do and I now manage the team. Myself and Alan Brown are the only originals left though.

We still hold our own at Worldnet (now in Doncaster) although in the vets competition nowadays, and we even won the whole thing a few years back.

Previously, in the full comp we made the semis a fair few times.

I remember the first one well and can’t remember if it was me who kicked off with Blockton Brown. I certainly did score from near the halfway line against Arsenal Nigeria though.

Good times.

Safe journey.

Many thanks Matt!!

I'm really glad the R'Sonists are alive and well. They were a properly important part of the resurrection of DRFC.

I'm gobsmacked WorldNet is in Donny. Is that a one off? Or every year? Somebody must work bloody hard to arrange something that big whichever it is.

Next time you see AB, could you say hi to him for me please? Not seen him in decades but a stout bloke with courage and vision and who's company I enjoyed.

Remember the match against Brighton in Cantley Park? The Red Baron reffed that day.

Cheers!!

Don't think I've ever heard about any other goal in world football more than I've heard about this one.

I’m fairly certain the one Ginge Harriman scored from a yard out to win the Vets Cup against Everton comes a very close second

And every year it gets a bit further out!

Hi Bob,

Very much alive and well, although ageing!

After many years in Leeds Worldnet moved around a bit, Preston, then Nottingham, but last year it moved to Cantley Park, where it will be held again in 2025. Very handy, but not the same for us.

I’ll remember you to AB.

On the Brighton game, pretty sure I missed that one due to Uni commitments - a bloody long time ago!

All the best.

He actually stumbled and it bounced off his arse.
