Let's talk about the Fleetwood game
« on December 29, 2024, 06:56:33 pm by selby »
After the two Christmas games against the two teams in the division on long unbeaten runs we come up against a Fleetwood side we played not long ago in terrible conditions and ran out worthy winners, and a forecast not too dissimilar
The game at Colchester we did well in, showed character and fighting spirit, didn't exactly have the run of the ball and their MOM probably their keeper, and not a lot from the referee.
As a team we need that every game, got the ball forward quicker and gave the front lads a chance as our shots numbering 12 shows.
So on to Fleetwood and more pressure on the need to win the game to keep us in touch at the top, Play well and we have every chance and now is the time to push on between now and the end of the season when the real shake out takes place and the teams in form tend to break away with little time for other sides to make bad form up.
Most goals against us seem to be a regular feature down our left flank, failing regularly to cut the run and cross out mostly being outpaced  and poor positionally inside, compare that with Olowu and the number of interceptions on our right and that is what we need to aim for, Olowu easily our best and consistent  player over the last few games, and because of our weakness on the left flank has less to deal with on a regular basis.
Against Colchester I thought our mid field upped their game being more competitive and showing more energy than of late, the sending off stupid and the referee autograph hunting.
Anderson although coming on late in the game looked on it and a bit of calming influence at an appropriate time so all in all the same again from me as team in the next game.
While that was going on Fleetwood were drawing at home to Harrogate, both goals coming early in the game Fleetwood's in the second minute so fast starters something we are not always on it, and they went on to dominate the stats and had 19 shots at goal only 4 on target despite having 42 touches in the Harrogate area which suggests overplaying it.
No game is easy we are going to have to raise our game again and try to get a clean sheet and defend our area better, nine games without a clean sheet is not promotion form, and whatever the problem it wants sorting.
What do you think? can we do a double? will the players have got some confidence back after the result at Colchester? Would you make changes? if so who? with some of the assaults that have been committed on especially Ironside this season that have gone unpunished, and the petty sending's off we have had, are you like me starting to question some officials neutrality?
Lot's to discuss, lots to take in with games coming thick and fast, and a transfer window coming up shortly, what do you Think? please have your say.

Apart from Gibson obviously, keep the same team, start on the front foot with the intensity we did today, (best for a long time) & we win the game. Would like their lad Paterson in our team though.

Raven, he will have to be ready and take his chance, I have an opinion shared by others, some in the game, but I leave picking the team to the manager and want us to win whoever plays.
I will repeat though if we have to score two goals a game to win a game to the end of the season we will not end up being where we want to be in the division, we have slipped back the last month or so because we have let teams score too many goals against us, not because we have not scored in most games, and teams have worked on our weakness down the left flank. Today the still shows they could have been offside, but as a coach of a boys team you would be disappointed at the room to work in when we don't have possession of the ball and the lack of cover I am sure, as we are wide open. It is a forum to discuss football we are all entitled to express an opinion on our team, not to pull your hair out, if I or you or anybody else  disagree so what its just talk and my honest opinion and a discussion point, nobody has to agree with me?
I give you Mr Brian Clough after being hammered against Liverpool in the first round of the European Cup when Liverpool were the holders the season before, when interviewed his reply with a smile was " It only takes a moment to win a game of football".

Fleetwood have a fairly decent away record. Lost four times all season (same as us) but have scored 15 goals away from home, bettered only by four sides (Walsall, Notts County, Chesterfield and us). Oddly, they haven't won away in the league since 1 October when they beat....Walsall 6-2!

I think he said “it only takes a second to score a goal”.
Similar sentiment though mate.

I’ll say it again, a win for Rovers followed by wins in the following 4 games is my belief.

So do I, mate. It'll mean I'll be getting that call from Cameron Diaz after all.

This game and the one against Port Vale could well be the pivotal home games of this season.
Two good results could well start a concerted push to the end of the season.
Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.

Thanks BS for saving the day !
Playing out from the back requires ; total concentration, first touch control ,vision as to what you are going to do with it to progress the game .NOT to pass the BUCK  to a team-mate ! .

A hugely important goal to start this new year.
I wonder how many had left already before it went in.

You don’t always get what you deserve in football and I think today’s game proves that ! Absolutely I’ll take the 3 points, but that was a dire performance! Grant doesn’t seem to be able to get a tune out of this team at the moment.
