Sbarra
« on January 04, 2025, 08:59:56 pm by Ryaldinhio »
Seems to be the only attacking midfielder who hasn't been given fair crack at it IMO.

We are not making good progress down the wings so try something different in the middle maybe?

I'm a big fan of Hurst but he is down the pecking order and did himself no favours today.

I like bits of what Kelly does but first half today was particularly poor I expected him to be hooked at HT.

I know sbarra is a bit on the small side but he when he does come on he is always busy and usually has some input to creating chances or getting a shot off.

He was signed as the No10, attacking midfield link between the mid and front lines.

I think we should give him a run in the team and see how he performs.....though it seems quite a few have already written him off

When you say a fair few have written him off, do you mean our coaching staff? They’re the ones who have barely given him a look in all season despite our consistent struggles against teams who sit deep.

They are also the ones who signed him, and rave about our excellent recruitment strategy, dossiers etc.

So what’s going on here?

Another player Terry Bramall will be wondering why he's paying 50-100k a year on. Always fit and available too.

Baffles me why he doesnt get more game time. Our only player who is a natural 10 and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Needs a run in the team.
Apparently a few teams were after him in the summer, he must be thinking he should of joined them

Yep and they’re the ones who see them in training day in day out

A bit like O'Driscoll saw Guy, Wilson, Green and Heffernan in training every day and regularly chose the first two over the second two.

Or Ferguson saw Whiteman in training every day and played him at the right of a triangle.

Or McCann and Moore saw May in training every day and didn't see a player who was about to blossom into one of the deadliest strikers in the lower leagues.

Sometimes coaches don't see it.

Sorry but what ive seen of him with the exception of taking a good corner, is that his overall play is not good enough.

Didn't Whiteman play at the base of Ferguson's diamond and the fans queried why it wasn't Houghton?

Signed a player like Sbarra and play a style that doesn’t suit him.

Our central midfielders (more advanced ones) are completing 10-20 passes a game. That’s woeful, but is a product of the way we play. Putting Sbarra (or any other footballer) in there won’t help. It’s the approach of the team that’s the issue not individuals.

Might be right. I've scrubbed most of that season from my memory. It was mostly grim stuff.

Well before yesterday we were 2nd.
I don’t think it matters how it’s looking so far it matters how it looks in May

Probably an outlier, I like what I've seen from Sbarra on occasion. He definitely deserves a chance to start when our form is horrific.

Sorry slip of a finger!

Yes but we were only second because others had games cancelled, out true position would probably be somewhere between 4-8th

The real problem is our results are declining whereas others are no getting there act together and at the current rate will not only go above us but will get way above us.
So statements around we are 2nd don’t wash with me and many others.

People need to stop going on about games in hand, lots of them are games in hand against each other so they can’t both get 3 points.
Last year teams all around us had games in hand and they didn’t win them

He must be dreadful in training if Clifton plays the role ahead of him. Sometimes he doesn’t even make the bench.

Did SoD keep picking Wilson ahead of Greenie?

I can’t say I’ve ever seen Sabarra do much to warrant mention. He seems easily knocked off the ball; in fact possibly more easily than young midfielders currently loaned out.

GM seems fixed in his policy this season of never playing our own youngsters. Why not play one of them if you want variation?

Of course speculative line-up changes is something that GM gets criticised for.

If you're serious about interpreting the positions of teams as things currently stand, look at the PPG table.

That has us 7th today and 5th before yesterday.

If you just want to insist that you're correct, carry on doing "you".

You’re slowly turning into one of the most negative posters on here, you know the ones that only pop up during a sticky run, then disappear when we’re playing well.
Last year we had to endure a season of you telling us it was impossible we would make the playoffs, this season we’ve not heard much if anything from you but now we’ve had a sticky few games up you pop with your PPG stats and master tactical advice,
I find myself hoping we win just because I know u won’t be on here if we do, after a defeat you’re everywhere.
PPG tables mean very little as last season should’ve thought you

Runs like last season happen a couple of times every hundred years for Rovers. We aren't gonna win 10 in a row any time soon.

Maybe not, but we’re not 21st in February like last year.
Stockport did it last year and Salford in the brink this season so pretty sure it’s not an every 100 year scenario.

If you're not paying attention when I comment on our excellent performances, I can't really help you there. Your choice.

I've commented this time on what I see as a consistently sub-average set of performances, and on your insistence on seeing information in a way that is really not balanced.

Last year, yes by the end of January, I was certain that we were not making the playoffs. My profound apologies for not anticipating one of the most astonishing turn rounds in form in football history. What that has to do with my contributions this weekend, or your obsession in reading into them what you wish to, I'll leave for you to ponder.
