My mate, Dek Downing played for Middlesborough in the mid to late 1960s. They played Man Utd at home in the FA Cup 5th round, who had Law, Best, and Charlton playing that day.

Dek scored a couple of minutes from time to give Boro a 2-1 win. Just imagine having memories like that.

If he'd have been playing today he would have earned boat loads.

RIP bit before my time but looked class in the footage I've seen, especially the goal that (finally) relegated Utd and how he carried himself.
This is a myth. United did end up going down but only because of results elsewhere. Law's goal was insignificant. He didn't celebrate because of his love for United.

On the day that England won the World Cup Denis absolutely refused to watch the match. I can't remember if he just went out for a long walk or if he went to play a round of golf. Either way, he was making damn sure he didn't have to endure England in a World Cup Final.

The story I heard was that he played a round of golf. As he came back to the club house somebody told him the score and he said something like that’s all I need or an expletive. Obviously thinking of as a Scot all the stick to come in the dressing room the following season.

Quite funny later though after Scotland became the first team to beat England after the World Cup Final and Scotland declared themselves to be World Champions.
(I don’t know if Denis played in that game so I may have gone slightly off the topic of the thread).

Edit:
I just checked and yes he did play and opened the scoring.
April 1967 and the Scots won 3-2 at Wembley.
