Well done RoversDave for retrieving and posting these.

Just reminded me actually the full reason for the reference to the 'floating roof'. From the inside of the stadium bowl with the visible gaps between the tops of the terracing, (Glass or perspex?) and the roof, which would have been cantilevered, it would have no visible means of support, hence floating.

Years ago I was having a conversation with a Rovers director who told me that we could have had a 24k stadium built just off the M18 with approval from the police, but the council wouldn't give planning permission as they wanted to have a community stadium and all that came with it.
A loan had been agreed with one of the major banks and it would have cost less than the Keepmoat complex.

The correct decision was made, the management team have made the stadium with the current design, capacity and location have made it into a financial success and a great community asset.
