Is this the match that broke Walsall ?

Have the Walsall of Jericho come tumbling down ?     :scarf:

Walsall's second goal is simply brilliant  and the celebration for such skill - unbelievable. I think he feels a right idiot now

Looking at that video, I’m sure that the long throw player for the first Walsall goal has his left foot over the line so it should have been a foul throw.

Funnily enough I noticed that too and if it was obvious for us, why not to the assistant ref?
And did you notice how long the highlights were - as long as the extended ones we get!

There was an article recently on bbc sport about a throw in that lead to a goal. The player had one foot way over the line but the goal stood. I think his heel was just touching the line. Law 15  states that the thrower must have part of each foot on the line
I think it was in France or Italy

It was happening in one of our recent home games too.
The long throw player took three in the SW corner and each time he had one foot on the pitch as he released the ball.

The lino on the West very seldomly looks at the thrower never mind his feet. A chap in front of me continually shouts watch his feet lino, watch his feet! at every opposition throw in but to no avail

So can someone please enlighten me as to the laws when taking a throw in.

Does the ball have to be released from behind or directly above but NOT in front of the throwers head for it not to be deemed a foul throw?

Is the throw in taker allowed to have a towel taken/placed by or given to him in order to wipe the ball in order for him to dry a wet ball to assist his grip in taking a long throw?

Does, as the earlier post mentions, one the takers feet only need to be behind the line or as with corners & the ball in relation to the quadrant, it is deemed a legitimate throw as long as the the heel of the throwers leading foot is touching part of the line as the ball is released?

Poor linesmen eh. It’s almost like a ‘proper important role’.

You can have your foot on the line and over the line when taking a throw in. Just as long as you are touching the line when you throw.

Both feet should be on the ground, but nearly every throw in when the ball is released one foot is off the ground

Should have been 2-1 to Cheltenham because that second goal for Walsall was an absolute gift. What was that defender doing?!
And he didn't exactly sprint back to recover after his mistake - do you think he had a bet on?

You’re absolutely right, but the officials ignore it these days. Have the rules changed ?

You can’t assume that, as every action on the field affects the remaining game.

Had the defender just cleared the ball (as he should have done) then the remaining game would have been completely different and Walsall may have just hung on to their 0-1 win or may have lost 2-1 or 3-1 - who knows?

Bradford City fans I know reckon Walsall were crap when City beat them 3-0 at Valley Parade. That was around Christmas I think.
Anything can happen in football as we know all too well.

Walsall’s demise seemed to start with a goal scorer they had on loan returning to his parent club and I think at the same time one of their pivotal playmakers git injured. And they don’t seem to have recovered .

Nathan Lowe got recalled by Stoke. He was knocking them in for fun up to Christmas.

Perhaps they don’t have a big enough squad to cover injuries etc.

i am reposting this from BB's crystal ball thread in cas you haven't seen it

I NOW expect Walsall to win the title   PV would financially be the best result

YES The Walls-all of Jericho came tumbling down ... I think they have 2 wins out of 16 matches

but they have repaired them ....   just look at those easy matches - as I said elsewhere they could win by 2 or 3 points now Crewe have screwed it up - even a loss at Barrow and they could do it with 4 wins

Sat 12 Apr   A   Barrow   League Two   3pm
Fri 18 Apr   H   Harrogate Town   League Two   3pm
Mon 21 Apr   A   Newport County   League Two   12.30pm
Sat 26 Apr   H   Accrington Stanley   League Two   3pm
Sat 3 May   A   Crewe Alexandra   League Two   3pm

expect Vale 2nd or third

Bradford 3rd at very best  but don't think so

Rovers ??  "I couldn't possibly comment"

So Wallflower Walsall "maintained their consistency" after all LOST :woohoo:

My Bank manager obviously wants Vale to win this league  but logic says Walsall have the best chance despite being second favourites -

Just to confuse you Walsall making the playoffs will be a very good result BUT Walsall finishing top 3 will still be a good result.
In the unlikely event Walsall win the play off's that would be an out of this world result - paid out twice

as I keep on telling you Walsall should have been 3-1 up in that game  against Port Vale even when i watch the replay I expect Walsall to make it 3-1

Today Harrogate will play to their abilities - namely set pieces & own goals full stop - they might get hammered -  0-0 is their usual target.

Now on Monday Walsall play early at 12-30 against Hopeless Newport County (that team we gave 2 goals away to when we tried to play the ball out of defence - and some of you said County were a good side at the time F-F_S : at least Molly learned a lesson EVENTUALLY)  SO THAT IS A MASSIVE ADVANTAGE PLAYING EARLY

The last match is at Crewe who at least in 2005 had the narrowest pitch in the league  - ideal for the Walsall long throw ins and corners - as they let Crewe have the ball.

So what will be today will be my crystal ball against Cheltenham showed a 4-1 win for us and funnily enough it does again  against Transmere - and we effectively get 4 points from the game (in my dreams)
