Things Refs threaten but never really follow through
« on March 09, 2025, 09:58:45 pm by Donnywolf »
There must be a dozen things Refs do at every level of the pyramid but never follow up on.what they signal they are going to

How many can we get ?

Almost every game you see the Ref blow his whistle or gesture to Keeper wasting time to take the goal or free kick but keeper ignores him and Ref turns round and trots upfield

Alternatively the Ref holds his watch up in.air and taps it to Keeper or other time waster implying he is noting the time wasting .... but does he add the time on ? Hardly ever

Every game EVERY Ref will pick a random Corner and pick out 2 players and lectures them on their pushing,  shoving , wrestling etc before sending them away and letting the Corner proceed

He then does nothing at all as the very same 2 players end up on the deck in a heap .

Refs often send players back when they are taking Throw ins or Free kicks but more often than not  they bottle it and just give up . Just who is in charge . They demand a player takes a throw from a spot so why don't they enforce it

Feel free to add more

Ref awards a free kick and sprays a curve where the taker should place the ball.
Ref then indicates that the defenders should go back and starts to move them back ten yards, but only moves them about eight yards back, his small paces often never get to ten either.

Tries to hurry up players after a goal but ends up having a natter with them as they walk slowly back - would love to see a 30 second (or less) limit and then the other team can kick off regardless of where the scorers are

Ref announces a minimum of five minutes add on time.
During the added time there are two goalkicks and each one takes thirty seconds to get the ball back into play but that wasted minute is very rarely added on to the five minutes.

Good one . It's not long since v Port Vale I think it was we got a Free kick in NW Corner

Can't remember if Offside or a foul but I DO remember there were 2 minutes of added time.

Their player grabbed the ball and he and Teddy SL had a wresting match as Teddy tried to get the ball and lash it upfield .

Ref pointed from HW Line for their player to let go of the ball. He didn't so Ref stalked upfield wagged his finger / had a word with them both and then sent their player away from the scene

Teddy hoofed the ball for all he was worth and with ball 30 feet in the air and passing over HW Line Ref blew the final whistle

So added time of 2 minutes equalled ball in play for 3 to 4 seconds  PATHETIC

The Swindon LB made 15-20 yards every throw in during the 2nd half, Lino stood where the throw should be taken trotted dutifully behind him.
Tom was penalised 2 yards off their goal line for his part in a wrestling match, keeper takes a free kick on the 18 yard line.
Yet we had Gibson getting a red for moving the ball 6 inches a while back.

The Bromley keeper did even better against us Andy.
He contrived to move the all about 25 yards further forward from where a foul took place before taking the free kick.

I really can't understand why the lino cant paint a little line where the throw in is to be taken from. Like for free kicks and walls. Then it would be obvious to everyone.

Come here lad, this is your last warning next foul you're in the book.5 more fouls later
Skipper come here, just making it clear that his next foul and he's in the book OK
5 fouls later
Right that's it your final warning.
Get's a booking finally, for taking too long on a throw in

Ha, yes indeed , and the booking usually comes in the last couple of minutes so no real jeopardy.

Looking as puzzled as the linesman as to whether it’s a corner or a goal kick….so we will be safe and just give a goal kick!

Jogging over to a player being substituted to tell him to "hurry up" off the pitch...only for said player to go even slower!

Don't know what happened to players leaving at the closest point to the sideline.

I think one of the biggest problems is consistency. Kicking the ball away is a yellow card with some refs but ignored by others. There are lots of examples, but it would be so much easier if referees all sang from the same hymn sheet.

On Sunday Zirkzee ran the ball out of play and threw it over the wall into the crowd to delay the Arsenal player at his side. How wasn’t that a yellow?

that is a unwritten rule that is told when you do a referees course if your unsure go the way of the defensive team
