Let’s hope there’s a deal brewing to keep Olowu

Hopefully Sterry and Olowu next.

Think the Olowu one will be a case of waiting until the end of the season and then if we go up will be the same as what we did with Whiteman where he signs a deal and we say we won’t stand in his way if an offer comes in.

Difficult giving out contracts not knowing what division we will be in. Broadbent a no brainer, we’ve chosen to buy him and develop him, keep going with that.

Senior is 28 and not an adequate L1 player for me. Wanting till the end of the season would have been perhaps a bit more wise there.

To get out of this awful league, we need a squad that is, excepting maybe one or two players, ready for league 1. Are we at that level this season? Not for me, but our squad depth has been a plus so far.

Last ‘end of season’ team was a league 1 ready team imho, however we still missed out, as we all know. But, looking forward, we have to hold on to the lads who have now firmly established themselves and Olowu fits that category. Worryingly, we are still waiting for positive news on Joe.

As it stands, the only contracted centre back for next season is McGrath.

Anderson, Wood, Olowu and Faulkner all currently out of deals in June.

With the obvious exception of Olowu I wouldn't lose any sleep if we didn't sign any of the other 3.

Anderson’s still good enough for me to be a solid squad member, even if we’re promoted. And he’s shown a lot of loyalty to us over the years.

Handing out contracts in March is now an annual occurrence.
At least it's players who aren't injured and haven't completed a fitness test.
Should imagine two contracts drawn up, one for this division and improved terms in the event of promotion.
Is Senior someone a club aiming for the championship would sign?

I see it like we've signed Senior, possibly both for lg2 if we don't go up.

If we do go up, he's then a salable asset that we could ship on for £30k or more likely a club buys his contract.

It's obvious that this current squad could not cut it in lg1. Crawley look doomed and Mansfield in 18th despite having a better team than us last season.

I think it's imperative that we go up this season.

Let's just say the league table stay the same at the end of the season,
Burton, Crawley, Cambridge and Shrewsbury come down making lg2 even more dull.

Lg1 however

Wrexham
Stockport
Bolton (if those three don't go up in POs)
Huddersfield
Barnsley
Lincoln
Rotherham
Wigan
Mansfield
Bradford
And possibly Notts

And possibly Derby

All those with decent away followings boosting our home attendances and cracking away days for us.

Some very exciting fixtures on the cards if we get promoted. League 1 would be a huge step-up in terms of quality and excitement.

Totally agree! L1 will be great next year, some epic games. Better atmopshere's and followings. We simply HAVE to go up this year. This division is codswallop.

Looking at those potential fixtures also means there will be many more easily reached away days too.

We were inundated with clubs coming in to take our fringe players on loan in the new year, remind me who went out and were actually wanted by clubs even in non league.
Few of the established players went out who we would have let out Faulkner has been a success at Buxton and attracting attention from other clubs and had choices of clubs for a loan in January Close has gone out and is Close on loan not pulling up any trees.
Of the youngsters Flint has been flying at Darlington all season and is being tracked by a bunch of league clubs, and Sam Brown has progressed upwards from Bradford Park Avenue to Peterborough Sports and must have done well. All the others are mostly on the bench lower down the leagues and haven't done a lot.

As it stands, the only contracted centre back for next season is McGrath.

Anderson, Wood, Olowu and Faulkner all currently out of deals in June.
Olowu we must try and get him under contract
Faulkner right age progressing on loan we should endeavour to try and resign him unless the club have a better player lined up
Anderson unless we known we’ve got better lined up then again we should sign him on for another year at least if he will take that.
Wood he should be released.

Much tougher division than the last time we were in it. That’s why Senior getting a contract this early surprised me. If we get promoted that could look like a waste of a wage. I’d be surprised if he handles L1. Hope he does because he looks to be a real good pro, I’m not convinced though.

Yes, and it’s a bit frightening that whereas we used to be a relatively big club in L1 we would not be next season with the current bottom 4 relegated. Wycombe apart who are phenomenal, only Mansfield, Northampton and Stevenage might be regarded as smaller plus probably the fourth promotee.

What is significant about this is that club financial resources are more significant than ever when it comes to success. Stockport, Wrexham and Notts have demonstrated this and the only club that has had funds recently in L2 that is not amongst the promotion contenders is Gillingham.

Big fan of Senior but I would have looked at a new first choice left back for League One given Maxwell’s injury record and defensive inconsistencies.

1 year contract extension announced
What does it say .. were the club under threat of leaving if not taken up NOW! The club has plenty of  games before the season finishes and some players may be looking elsewhere if their contracts aren’t addressed . Better to
Agree behind close doors and sort them all them out before announcing . IMO
