Great effort by our neighbours with over 8000 fans in for their game v Chester, who themselves brought over a 1000 supporters.  Just shows non league football is alive & kicking. Good luck to them & Andy Butler.

Good win for Scunny and topping the table - would be good to see them climbing back up towards the league.

Had a feeling for a while now that Billy Sharp will return to Scunny next season. Not heard anything but just think it would be a good move if he was wanting more playing time.

Isn’t Billy targeting 300 EFL goals before he ends his career.

They've lost twice in their last 20, winning 13 in that run. The two games they lost were both by a single goal. Butler has them absolutely flying. Be good for him to get a trophy and a promotion under his belt.

Remember MyFootballClub? They bought a controlling interest in Ebbsfleet United, and then invited anyone to buy a share in the club with the promise that they got to have a direct say (via weekly votes) in things like transfers and even team selection.

Well, despite running Ebbsfleet to the verge of administration, MyFootballClub is back and there are strong rumours that the club they're set to purchase this time is Scunthorpe. I'm no fan of our near neighbours but I wouldn't wish that circus on the poor sods.

Thought they had decent owners now - wouldn’t wish dodgy ownership like that on anyone.
Is there a fit and proper owners test at that level ( not that it works anyway see Reading)

I’d heard that the current owners have only the club’s best interests at heart. Talking of novel management schemes I don’t think any other club has tried the McKay experiment and I still find it difficult to believe that our Board bought that.

Hi FSLAR. I suspect the only credible reason for the then Board of the Rovers accepting the McKay experiment must revolve around:

1) an attempt to find the funds to sustain a Championship level club without actually having the money with which to do so
2) an attempt by the then chairman to maintain his control without having to put in any more of his own money. The subsequent effort with Louis Tomlinson rather proves that point

As far as I can make out, there isn't any other believable explanation for it.

Cheers!

On the face of it getting “top class” players at a reported cheap cost probably seemed a good idea at the time.
I think most of us fans bought into it initially and some of the names being floated about were incredible.
Even the bookies bought into it and if I remember correctly we were 14/1 for promotion before season started.

Without The Experiment we would never have seen El Hadj Diouf play for Rovers.
He was the best of the bunch without doubt.
I remember being down at Cantley Park one day though and there did seem to be a division between the players.
Our own contracted players didn’t engage too much with the short term ones.

That “cheap cost” was a con, I am certain I saw figures showing that the wage bill went sky high that season.

Yes it caused chaos as we over spent by £14 Million
Which caused massive issues as the guys with the money hadn’t been given the correct info.
I was looking back the other night and I think we had 7/8 ex premier players on the books that year.
But we also sold Billy.

Slight deviation, in an interview in Yorkshire Post Barnsley chairman Neerav Parekh says they have put over £6m in the club this season to help with running costs, put in as equity. For the last 2 years in L1 there has been a 41% player wage inflation.
A further injection of funding will be required for next season
Is TB still putting £2m in each season  on top of whst he has made available to GM?

Looks like our neighbours are blowing automatic & the title that goes with it. Now third & 2 points behind Kidderminster & Brackley with 2 to play.
