Quite recent for me, Marillion at The Royal Albert Hall 2019. In fact the 2017 show is on Sky Arts tomorrow night.

Marillion's  long time post Fish lead singer and keyboard player, Steve Hogarth, sat next to me in maths at Danum.  His Wikipedia entry understates his age. He's the same as me. He's  got 2 drop dead gorgeous sisters. They all used to live on Ardeen Road in Intake. Steve lives near Oxford now - still fairly close to me!

 Think she only sang half a dozen songs but the clarity of her voice and her lyrics have stayed with me
 To think this concert  was nearly 60 years ago , I remember it well as I  was on leave from the RAF
 in Bahrain and bumped into 2 of my former apprentice pals in the audience

However gig wise Queen at NEC Birmingham still sticks in my mind. Only time I saw them live and bloody brilliant imo

Blimey Bob, I think you've brought back a distant memory there.
Was that Steve 'Oggy' Hogarth who had long hair and always wore a long black trenchcoat? If I'm correct, I remember him singing and playing the piano at an end-of-year show at Danum Grammar. He was in Upper Sixth and I was in Lower Sixth at the time.
When he walked on stage and sat at the piano we all thought it was a wind-up.
Then he started playing and singing. He was brilliant. Me and my mates were all gob-smacked!

I had no idea he went on to make a living out of it.

Yup. That's Steve.  Or 'H' as he's  known to fans of Marillion.

He was always one of the slightly crazy ones. I remember him leaping full pelt down the stairs outside the PE hall place. He ended up on his face. But he was a nice lad. I got on well with him. Used to go round to Ardeen Road to see him. And his two sisters....

 Prior to Marillion he was keyboardist and occasional sínger with The Europeans. They got a reasonable following for a while and I did see them on TV once

Martin Harris was in the same year. He played professional footy for Grimsby and Workington - when they were in the League. Mike Elwiss was two years (I think) above us. Used to watch Bob Bruce shouting at him as he ran up and down that hill on the playing field with a sodding great heavy sack across his shoulders.

As for best gig, for me, no question. I was never a fan of The Who but I saw them,  complete with Keith Moon, at the Granby Hall in Leicester in 1976. Completely f**king awesome. A close second though was The Boss at Wembley Stadium on the Born in the USA tour. 1981 or 1982 maybe? A mesmerising performer.

Focus were good too. Sheffield City Hall 1973 or 1974.

Saw an incredible live blues show at Sheffield City Hall in 1965. Sonny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, Sleepy John Estes.

Some of the greatest names ever in blues music.

Bloody brilliant Sydney! I nicked off from a play rehearsal to get to Sheffield for that. It was the first live concert I ever managed under my own steam - though I did see Hawkwind in Truro of all places before then courtesy of a lift and the money for a ticket from my M&D.

Who was drummer at that Focus gig? My head says it was still Pierre van der Linden but I'm not convinced

Lindisfarne / Rab Noakes / Genesis / Andy Andrews a Comedian think that was his name

Saw them after buying a Ticket outside as they were so close but also already had a Ticket for London at Sadlers Wells Coliseum
Both were great and Lindisfarne were one of my favorites at the time

Also saw David Bowie twice at Top Rank Donny and enjoyed both but probably first visit " Ziggy" better than  "Aladdin"

New Order at the Troxy in 2011

A brilliant gig, and I bumped into Dick from Dick and Dom (a York lad) and had 20 mins or so talking with him at the bar.  Very knowledgeable about New Order.

Also saw Jack Straw on the tube afterwards.

I was, of course, very very drunk.

Missed your post Bob ..... the drummer, dunno, It was my proper gig too, I was encouraged to go by a couple of mates even though I didn't know much about them, I can only remember Jan Akkerman on guitar.
