That first goal today just knocked the stuffing out of them. Mols taking the piss with his run for the 2nd was the cherry on top.

The save by TSL doesn’t look much on the highlights reel, but I was sat in the East Stand right in line with the shot, which was heading for the top corner.  TSL reached with his right hand and clawed it around the post.

A top class save and a candidate for save of the season.

Agreed and I was in the south stand and heard the touch that he got on the ball.

Same position as me - fingertips got just enough to it, their best chance and a wonderful save.

Perhaps it’s a good job he didn’t realise as he might not have issued the second yellow if he had done.

No chance, that foul for the second yellow wasn’t far off being a straight red IMHO..

When was the last time a Rovers player picked the ball up in his own half waltzed past a whole defence into the area and lay a goal on a plate?
Answers on the back of a stamp.
The only one I can remember, when a Rovers player took the mick was Marquis (v Wycombe????) but that was just outside and into the area before slipping the ball in.

If Moly had scored the goal himself it would have been the league 2 equivalent of Maradona in 86.

Having seen the highlights now, there’s no way it was a straight red..

I have a hazy memory of the Afro Goal Machine doing something similar

I seem to remember that Marquis scored two goals which were very similar (in different games), running through the opposition defences and beating a few defenders before scoring.

Peter Kitchen did it in a 3-0 win, away at Newport County one freezing Friday night in 1975 or 1976. I've mentioned it before on here because it is still the best single goal I have ever seen live.

Thats ridiculous. Having the ball doesn’t always mean controlling the game. At two nil we went into game management mode. We had no need to chase and let them have the ball. They had no real attacks even with greater possession and we eventually hit them on the counter as was always likely to happen. Perfect.

Didn’t hurst run straight through Crawleys defence a few years back? We won 4-1 I think?

Hahaha that’s funny, we scared the living daylights out of them for the first 45 minutes. They barely passed a ball forward. They had a little period, briefly as Tranmere did, and then after the sending off they absolutely sh*T themselves yet again and barely put a foot forward.
We reproduced a performance reminiscent of last season’s 10 game massacre, and they barely deserved to be on the same piece of grass as us.Theyll enjoy the 6 hour coach journey home a lot more than that 90 minutes.

It was very noticeable from the West Stand that he was looking towards the Colchester supporters (who I actually thought noise wise gave a ‘good account’ of themselves) from 70 minutes onwards with ‘uplifting arm gestures’ as if to suggest it was them who had to goad the players more in order to get them to react.

Pathetic/ridiculous/sad.

Is it a coincidence that we’ve played some of our best football over this last week and there’s hardly been any swapping and changing? Not stirring it, by the way, as GM has had to stick with, more or less, the same 11 due to injuries and 1 suspension. Some of the younger lads also seem to have ‘come of age’ and had far more impact on games, e.g. Crew, Ennis, Kelly.

I think Street was just about washed out second half but managed to stay on a little bit longer than he would have liked. Felt for Jack Senior getting his injury as he was having a cracking game and looks much improved.

It was a pleasure to witness that today and we havn’t had many games like that, at home, this season. Hopefully, we’ve one more in our locker!

We’re so close now. Get rested lads and one more monumental effort will see us over the line.

Actually IDM Steve Lister did exactly that away at York City too. An evening match in Billy Bremner's first promotion season, very late on in the season. York were a good side. Rovers won, I think 3-0, but that may easily be wrong. Whatever, it was a damn fine goal - all the way from the edge of our penalty area , down the wing and slamming it in the net at the end.  A really quality goal.

BobG

Later: just checked. It was a 1-0 win in September 1980. Memory.... built to deceive!
