The defense today...,

Was absolutely outstanding as a unit, blocked a large percentage of crosses, and the few that got in, Tom and bails headed away. I can't remember a single time the opposition got a clean header on goal. Big performance from everyone!!!

Been mentioned in another thread. That’s 2 superb defensive displays with someone called Bailey as a CB. Coincidence or No?

They were dreadful as an attacking unit. Very comfortable day for the back four.

We have stumbled on a stronger defence through injuries.

The two lads they had playing through the centre didn’t have a shot did they? The first lad looked too big to be a footballer and the second lad they brought on wasn’t much better. Some of their wide players were ok but there can’t have been a striker grace the Eco-Power with less mobility since our man Tiago than their number 9.

Their wide players looked tricky especially the one who got sent off. I think their 17 could have caused us a few problems but they didn’t play to him. Let’s be honest they placed into our hands big time with the short passing from the restarts. If they played early into 17 and cut that out it would have given him a chance

Lisbie (14) was one of the quickest players I’ve seen at this level. Serious speed. Not that he did much with it mind you.

Wood being injured has again accidentally produced better selection. Reminds me of Street not playing up front.

Crew is a better option in midfield for sure.

I think it’s come to light that Bailey, who was outstanding today, being called into defence has somehow freed up our midfield to function better.
I would also like to give a shout out to Jack Senior. He was really good today. He gets a bit of flak on here. Sure, he’s never going to be Roberto Carlos but the lad very rarely lets us down. He’s a steady Eddie that every squad needs in my opinion.

I was saying this after the game (would never say it during of course!) but felt for all their 'threats' they were abysmal when it came to decision making and the final ball/shot.

Completely agree the defence looked solid enough but they could have let Colchester walk through them and I doubt they would have troubled us on that showing.

Had a good chuckle at this kid trying to speed up TSL getting the ball when it went out of play and ended up wasting more of their time throwing it past him

Senior was very good as were the rest of the defence, not bad having Maxwell come on for him.
Noticed with Senior that he has looked slightly off it at the start of a game but quickly grows into it (learning on the job)

Both Lisbie (14) and Edward’s (21) were lively, speedy players and caused us problems at times, but unfortunately for them they let themselves and their team down at crucial stages in the match when they were dominating.   Both were trying to referee the match in a very visible way and the officials to their credit wouldn’t allow them to do that.

Lisbie was subbed as he was in real danger of being sent off and Edwards, who was booked in the first half for having a ‘strop’ when he didn’t get his own way,
was sent off for a sliding tackle which was his second booking.

This was effectively the end of their team’s fight back and resulted in a comfortable end to the game for Rovers.

Think we should also be giving additional praise for JS, he seems to be getting better the longer the season goes on, we were discussing how he looks more calm and in control of all his actions, he also seems to have gained a yard in pace as he now looks very comfortable against wide pacey wingers. His interplay with Mols is excellent and when he now comes inside he looks like he could tee off at any moment, he should do so with his cannonball shot when he connects right.

If he stays free of injury (his shoulder does not seem to cause him too much trouble outside of taking throws) he will look even better playing at a higher level.

Keep it up Jamie lad.

I bet Sterry gave a huge sigh of relief when their lad got sent off, he was fast, direct and tricky looked too good for this league. Petulant though, that first yellow was ridiculous, a proper tantrum.
