Biggest home crowd at the KM?
« on April 25, 2025, 02:30:16 pm by normal rules »
One for the stattos, but I wondered what has been the  biggest home crowd at the km? Excluding away supporters.
All of the big games such as the 15000 Leeds game have included huge north stand sell outs. And segregation in the east and west stands.
Tomorrow looks like it will be up there as a contender.

Vs Swansea City. The Donnybob challenge when there was in excess of 12k home fans. The 1-1 score when Angel Rangel scored a last minute equaliser for them. I think we put an offer on @ £10 or a family of 4 for £25 or summat.

I only have away supporter numbers at matches back to 2008-09, and not all cup matches, and a few gaps in League matches as well. The largest number of home fans I can seem to find is 12927 for the Swansea home match in the Championship in 2010-11 (was that a quid per kid offer game?), followed by 12755 for the Palace home league game in the same season (similar offer?).

There were 11568 home fans for the Newcastle championship match in 2009-10.

I have two differing figures for the away supporters at the Crewe playoff game last season (1271 or 1502?) which would mean either 11618 or 11387 home fans.

Don't have data for the Leeds 15000K attendance match in 2007-08

Not many would have guessed Swansea (my second team) being the team to attract the most home fans to the Keepmoat/Ecopower

Yes, 13988 attendance, but I don't have data on number of away supporters

Leeds game was 15001 and (from memory) I think they just had the North Stand, so would've been just shy of 12k home fans I would've thought.

For your records Dutch, Crewe officially brought 1271 (I think 1502 might have been the number of tickets they were allocated).

I know. Crikey.

Obvs the reason why we keep referring back to this when folk mention the club marketing.  Donnybob wrote the following

"The solution to Rovers attendances is glaringly obvious.

If every current fan could encourage one new fan to attend a match - be that a work colleague, a neighbour, a relation, a complete stranger you speak to in the pub - then every single game would be a sell-out. Forget the club's marketing efforts, forget advertising, billboards, fliers, videos, radio and TV, it's YOU can make the ultimate difference.

Make the effort, invite a friend. That's all it takes..."

Bearing in mind full price was £25 to £28 back then so we campaigned to JR to make it more affordable. We tried a few things where we could discount tickets. I think we used three different games to trial things.

So when you think what we pay now compared to then. Yes, we had Championship football to sell and a decent team to watch.

Trouble us now, we can't discount home tickets without doing the same for away fans. Quite a few clubs got collared for doing the same.

There were plenty of Leeds fans in with ours in the other three stands though pib.

Maybe I should’ve reworded to just shy of 12k in the home areas.

Being a bit pedantic i know,  but did we not sell out an England U19/21? international game, could they be classed as all home fans?

Swansea was obviously the highest, I would have thought their away att was around 500-800 which meant 12k home fans.

Think tomorrow will be around the 11k mark, so just shy of Crewe last year

The Palace game was the Good Friday game and we were in the shit so Ryan let everyone in literally for free. We still only got a draw and didn't win again in the final games, staying up only marginally. We had won once in the final 20 that season and it didn't go much better at start of next season, and SOD got the P45 as a result.

Just to clarify, the attendance at that Swansea match was 13614 with 687 away fans, so a genuine 12927 home fans, the largest I can find.

It will never be beat, certainly not in the current stadium.

Always have bitter sweet memories of that Swansea game. I remember the stadium looking amazing being full to rafters with Donny fans and then a passage of play in the second half which ended with David Healy heading against the crossbar for what would have been 2-0 and probably game over. Am I right in thinking that a win that day would have sent us 2nd or 3rd in the championship? Then the obvious injury time equalizer from Rangel and from then on, it felt like the entire season fell through the ceiling (as pointed out we only won something like 1 in the last 20 odd).

Always feel like that Swansea game was a key turning point that season. Who knows what the outcome would have been if we’d held on for 30 seconds more that day.

I remember that game so well and that moment at the end was hard to take.
It was very season defining wasn’t it.

Angel Rangel

His name conjures up a picture in my mind of a hapless snooker player trying to work out which cushions to use to get out of a nasty snooker - his head is having a bit of an angle wrangle

SOD blamed Sulli for Rangels equaliser and gave Sulli a dressing down on the pitch in front of the players and fans walking out,Sulli was not happy and stormed off down the tunnel,as you say,our season fell apart after that and I think that played a big part in it,for me Sulli was not to blame,If anything,SOD'S obsession with extra defenders to try and see a game out usually resulted in us being in constant pressure and players falling over each other and conceding so many late goals,I used to prey SOD would bring an extra midfielder or defensive midfielder on to stem some pressure.
