A Special Day
« on April 26, 2025, 08:01:44 pm by RoversAlias »
Hello!

I just wanted to pop in and say what a brilliant day this is for our club, and I hope everyone enjoys the celebrations and this achievement.

I haven't been a regular at games in several years now, indeed I haven't been to a game at all since the Crewe shoot-out defeat last season, but I watch as often as I can on Sky and have enjoyed seeing this Rovers team challenge in League 2 and get their due reward. All credit to Grant McCann, Cliff Byrne and the entire staff, the players who have contributed so much to getting us over the line and everyone at the higher level from Terry on down.

My dad rang me on his way out of the stadium, he sounded so happy and so relieved after feeling the stress of this promotion push in the last few weeks. Hearing him taking in this day meant a hell of a lot to me - on his Wedding Anniversary as well! A great gift from the Rovers.

When all the late drama in the game started happening, I was in the middle of feeding my son some Weetabix so it was all a bit chaotic, but I just had a feeling when the penalty was awarded that it would be missed, that this was Rovers' day. Great save by Sharman-Lowe and I went mental when Billy rolled in the winner minutes later.

I may not live locally and I may not get to games anymore, or see any of the social media stuff or this forum (aside from the very odd occasion) but it is still my club and I am still desperate to see everyone associated with the club succeed. Let's hope we can kick on back in League One now under a great manager.

Have a wonderful weekend  :scarf:

Been a lurker on this forum for years, just to see what's being said. But today is really a special day, being there with my son, you wonder how many times you get to experience this. I've loved the build up, the atmosphere, the reaction, the posts from the fans, club and players. Absolutely epic.

Special day today. They don't come often. Let's remember this one for a long time.

I've been doubtful this season, but the lads have done us proud. And the atmosphere in the Sal was something else!

this picture was published just a few days after we drew our opening Midland League game of the season 1-1 away at Gainsborough Trinity - wonder if anyone had been 'off t'Sal for a pint' to celebrate after that one...

Black Bank was brilliantly noisy today. Any of you guys on here who were in there, kudos to you, awesome effort. What a day, my 4th watching Rovers in the promotion game from League 2, and the noisiest and most dramatic, I can now stop waking up thinking about permutations !

Blimey up there with very best rovers days. Great game. Jeopardy, talent, skill, hell, joy. The stuff with the team in Sal and Hallcross after was off the scale. Great stuff from grant must have said go and enjoy. That’s a team who’re comletely together. No massive egos. All in the pub. Tom Anderson’s on the table in the hallcross conducting it all just bloody art!

Great day, only downside was my car had a flat battery when I got back to it, luckily the jump pack was in the car, so all was good in the end

Wow, when I read this it makes me wish I lived in Donny.

I left as an 18-year-old, 50 years ago, but have never stopped supporting the Rovers and have held a season ticket for every year since we moved to the Lakeside and several years before that at Belle Vue.

I had to leave the stadium and drive the two hours back home after the game this afternoon but my heart stayed in Donny and I hope all you fans enjoyed your celebrations with the players.

This club means everything to me. It is a huge part of my life and I am so happy tonight.

Thanks to Terry, to Gavin, Grant, Cliff and all their staff, to the players and to all my fellow fans.

We deserve this.

absolutely yes to E&J - it's banter, but for the discerning gentleman about town rather than the witless TalkSport variety for the mentally enfeebled; liberally infused with Biscuits references too...

A special day that you don't get many of in a lifetime. Quite a poignant thought, as I didn't attend because I had bad guts.

Gutted.

Special day indeed!

Watched it here in the USA with my brother and some friends of ours. I may be in the minority but was not that nervous at all going into this one. I knew we would take care of business.  Being a Donny fan for over 8 years now, not always had that feeling haha.

Enjoy it gents! And hopefully next season will be even better.

Been to all of the big ones in the last ten years or so but today was right up there for me. Dragged my nephews all over the country watching some absolute shite for the last few years and at times I felt like not bothering travelling anymore.

All that made today so much sweeter, after having them in tears a year ago to seeing them down at the bottom of the SS today taking it all in and enjoying the celebrations after the game.

Hopefully we can go one better next weekend...

It was nice to see Claire Bailey get the legends shirt for Richard at half time.

Not quite Brentford, Wembley or stoke but definitely up there! A penalty, late goals, sending offs and a club legend scoring the winner! Happy days! I’m on the cloud above, the cloud above cloud nine!! And I’ll sleep well tonight!  :woohoo:

Nice to hear from you again, Alias, it’s been far too long.

Reading some of the comments on here, it’s a shame I missed meeting a few of you in the Sal. As much as I enjoyed the game, the afterparty was truly magical.

Very enjoyable day.

Yes this was fantastic for the club to make this presentation to Claire.
Richard was a great guy, and this will be a wonderful tribute for Claire and her son to cherish for years to come.

Just thinking about what felt slightly different yesterday vs other great days such as Wembley. Stoke & Brentford and I think it’s because it was at home - we often get into great positions but a massive crowd, on live TV, with everything to play for, means we tend to slip up or not quite perform. But yesterday the players, the crowd, everything, just clicked. A truly great day, and it was at our place in front of a sell out crowd. Brilliant!!  :woohoo: :woohoo:

My sentiments are very much the same as Pancho’s. Left Donny at 17, never went back to live there but wherever my ‘journeys’ took me Rovers have always been a massive part of my life.

Been a season ticket holder since we moved to The Keepmoat & like Pancho, held one at Belle Vue before that.

Now living & travelling into games from the East Coast but yesterday I would have happily swapped life there to be a Donny resident again just so I could have joined in the celebrations with the supporters AND players!

The pubs must have erupted when they walked in! I have gleaned from posts that Big Tom was there up on a table conducting the singing, Billy & Joe Olowu present too but please to all who were there, can you fill this ‘out of towner’ in on which other players were there, did they have a beer, what was said, did they all have their training kit on……please, help me to be a ‘fly on the wall’ so I can add those moments to all my own experiences over so many years.

I raise my glass (well, pot of tea!) to you all!
