I’m 56 and it doesn’t take me 5 days to recover from a weekend on the lash - not that I do that often mind!

I’d have been concerned if the next game was on a Tuesday, but not the following Saturday.

Highest number of Tier 3 and 4 titles:

7: Doncaster
6: Chesterfield, Plymouth
5: Brighton, Brentford, Lincoln, Notts County, Portsmouth, Wigan

Let's increase our lead and stay top of that table for some years yet

Looks like we are about to lose one record - the club with both the highest number of league wins in a season (33, 1946-47) and the highest number of losses in a season (34, 1997-98)

Edit: We can also join Brentford who are currently the only team to win Tier 4 under all three of its names (Division 4, Division 3 and FL Division 2)

There is so much at stake for us stattos

I never quite understood why fans thought we might not beat Bradford. We are a gnats whisker away from the title, and again I don't see why we shouldn't beat Notts County. We just have one game to win and with enough commitment it is doable.
We were champions 2012-2013 and we can do it again.

A moron obviously. A moron who doesn't know that this football match involves two teams who both want, and have reasons for needing to win.

I think them needing a win to get into the plays might actually help us as they will come out and attack us leaving space at the back for Gibson and Molly to take advantage of

I don't think anyone was seriously suggesting a hacking Bob, I believe it was just that some on here thought the post seemed to be a bit out of character for the poster

In the last 5/6/10 games we are either 1st or 2nd in those tables
Nots County hover between 13/15/19
Our for and  against in these periods is better than Notss County so we should go there play our game and hopefully at the end we will get the result we need be Champions.

Two down and one to go in our third game against top sides around us to win the divisional title,
Just a couple of years ago on Boxing day I left their ground actually thinking we could be going into non league football after being completely hammered and outclassed by what was one of the best displays of football I have seen at this level, quite a turn around to our position currently.

IT WAS 0-0 AND WE GOT A PENALTY AT 0-0  WHEN JODI JONES PUSHED SOMEONE - IF IRONSIDE HAD SCORED THAT PENALTY I WAS SURE WE WOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME - IT WENT WIDE - YES THE OLD MAN PLAYED OUT OF HIS SKIN ON HIS RETUN FROM INJURY - THEY WERE ON A HORRIBLE RUN AND THEIR MANAGER WAS HAVING A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN AND I WASN'T JOKING    - SEE BELOW FOR MY PRE-MATCH COMMENTS
One of our oldest  foes that bring back many old memories, Albert Broadbent scoring a penalty in a cup replay win, and the Needham and Coleman incident resulting in the referee being assaulted just two of many games between the clubs over the years I have watched.
So history between the clubs going way back even my first game and dad taking me to sit on his knee to watch Tommy Lawton play as a four year old and 74 years later here we are again and still hooked on the club, and still a very important game to play,
Today Notts County got the result they needed to still be in the mix for automatic promotion much to my dismay as I was hoping they would not be that bothered if only the play offs were their only route to promotion, which probably shows the  coward side of me, winning now would be the right way.
In OLD MAN McGoldrick, Palmer, Grant, and Gambia international Jatta A YOUNG TOTTENHAM LOANEE WHO CAN STRIKE A BALL AND OF COURSE INJURY plagued  MALTESE INTERNATIONAL JODI JONES - who had a record number of assists last season they have some of the  best players in the division on their day and we will once again have to be at the top of our game to get our rewards from the match.
With a big crowd, and lots of eyes in the home contingent on the Bradford City game notts county haven't a chance in hell of automatic promotion the atmosphere is going to be electric - Na like a fun day and once again we need to play the game not the occasion as Bradford found out to their cost, losing your heads get's you nowhere, all the pressure on them to make the running.
Apart from injury we seem to have settled on a group of players the defence especially doing well Anderson and the Keeper my two MOM's today, who would you go for?
Grant seems to have got the rotation just right and any sign of players running out of steam being replaced and planned multiple substitutions keeping up the pace of the side especially in midfield.
It will be a great end to the season if we pull this one off, and no great disaster if we don't, nice to do so, but now not the end of the world as the main mission has been achieved, and if we don't win I hope Notts County get the third place as being no big lover of Bradford City.
As ever lot's to talk about and now lot's to look forward to many thanks to Grant and the management, not forgetting the players for an unforgettable season including a nice cup run only brought to an end by a team that has reached the final so no disgrace and to the shadow board and Terry Bramall who give a lot to the club some with their time and of course Terry with time and finance and lastly but not least all of you for reading a season full of my drivel and taking part in the discussion's all season, your comments always insightful, thanks a lot and please have your say.

Orient sacked their development and set piece coach before the 2-1 win at Cheltenham

where they were 1-0 down til the 89th minute and managed to win 2-1

what's that about a poor workman (manager) blaming his fellow "tool" ( set piece coach)

Apparently Swansea are thinking of making a move for the Notts County Manager who has lost 5 out of his 7 last games  :headbang:

Don't know why they Signed the Barnsley Manager who  plays a different type of football to   "passing for passing sake" Swansea "stuff

As i said The Notts County Manager has totally lost the plot so it's looking good for us on Boxing Day at their place.

i AM not having a go at you Selby and I respect the hard work you put into this site - IT JUST SHOWS HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT MEMORIES OF THE SAME MATCH

the fans agreed with you   WE ALL REMEMBER IRONSIDES PENALTY AT SUTTON BUT NOT HIS MISS (FIRST EVER FOR US) AGAINST COUNTY

and as I predicted Notts County collapsed as I predicted funnily Walsall did the same as I also predicted - it certainly is a funny old game.

UPDATE

What I forgot to mention was in that Notts County match Baldwin played centre half in their comical defences - if you remember when the defenders thought they had  Beckenbauer or better skills on the ball   County released him at the end of the season

If they beat us & Walsall & Brad City lose then they go up automatically.

We need to equal or beat Port Vale’s home fixture against Gillingham (who have ‘nothing’ to play for relegation/promotion wise in order to become Champions & lift the trophy with ‘precious medals’ for the squad to carry with them as a first or a part of their journeys as professional footballers.

So, yet another massive game for us come Saturday.

I have faith in this manager & this group of players to seize the day.

I am more confident of winning this game than I have been if any game this season.

We are the better team.
We have found our form.
We have been galvanised.

The lads wanna go to the Sal again!!!!!

Isn't it a nice feeling going to the last game knowing we are GOING UP!  I'd love to match Port Vale and take the title, but I'm looking forward to a relaxed away game in the sun.  Any ideal on the likely attendance?  I can see Notts C are still selling tickets.

Just on port vale, gillingham certainly won’t be an easy game for them. They’ve come massively into form since Ainsworth took over. Wouldn’t be surprised if we lost and still won the title.

Would be interesting to see whether their players drop a level if Walsall or Bradford quickly go a couple of goals up, or if the manager then takes a player or two off at half time.

I would imagine Notts will throw everything at us from the whistle to try and get the advantage, knowing that news would spread to Bradford and Walsall very quickly.

We've got to be ready as it could play into our hands.

Final days always throw up surprises and drama, so expect every eventuality during the 90 mins. When the music stops at 90 + 10 it's usually one goal somewhere that changes everything.

The good thing is, we can celebrate win, lose or draw.

Hopefully they do and get carried away as we've more than got the players to pick them off on the counter attack for example.  I get the impression they aren't the best defensively.  I'd like to think we'll approach it fearlessly, we've not really that much to lose.

Over the course of the season I’ve placed some 13 bets in total with odds varying from 10/1 to 9/2 with Sky Bet to the total tune of £129.

If we end up as Champions tomorrow I win £1,152.

Today Sky Bet are offering a cash out of £533.72.

I’m going to let it roll.

C’MON ROVERS!

CLH, feel free if you want to, although you are not the first SYD used to do it to me and others and then complained to the moderators about  the content just to get us banned.
I will take you to task over the game though we, the penalty was given in the about Three minutes we were actually in the game , and we ended up lucky that the score was not much wider.
Olowu and Anderson our heroes this season had the worst first half of football in their careers on the same day and looked completely lost.
Football history has been built on coulda, shoulkda, woulda incidents, we  played that day like a Doncaster League side against a world cup standard side without a clue of what to do about it.

Thanks Selby I wanted to get a lot of facts in and the easiest way was to use your initial post as a  "skeleton post" to add bits in - I had believe it or not more to add. !!!!!!!!   apart from that now Bradford player being on the pitch    -- I was amazed to see our back 5 was Sterry Oluwu Anderson Senior Nixon

and after that b*llocking for the performance we drew 1-1 with a much better team Mansfield who I was certain at the time would finish 3rd - I NEVER BACKED MANSFIELD AS  I didn't like the idea of them being ALMOST TOP until the two money teams brought out their cheque books yet agiAn and bought the top two places- which is exactly how it happened - Mansfield did draw a lot of game that season (didn't lose many)

I see Anderson wasn't in the squad for Mansfield -game - Now I remember thinking after drawing against the much better side - what could have happened against hopeless* County {ALTHOUGH FOR THAT ISOLATED DAY ON PAPER THEY HAD AN EXCEPTION}(A) if McGoldrick hadn't returned after his injury and (B) if the team against Mansfield had played against County

and the if both A & B had happened

I apologise to Fal if he has truble understanding sentanzes longar than 3 wordz

*and as I predicted County ended up hopeless

Below is  a link to the team against Mansfield  THE PHOTO is of the team V Notts County

I agree. PV and Walsall are the only two clubs that have kept 1st position for any amount of time. Bradford only took it briefly, so, a bit like the Fergie season, if we were to pinch it on the last day  PV would be the most aggrieved (assuming that the realists at Walsall gave up any feeling of entitlement some time ago). Certainly given their opposition, if we equalled or bettered their result, they would have to give us credit.

I’m about as relaxed as I can possibly be ahead of a competitive fixture involving my team - even more so than if this was a dead rubber.  Worst we can finish is second so for me, we’ve got nowt to lose and can play with freedom..

Might have to get the now tv day pass however..
