I watched the incident a few times. It seems first yellow was for the mouthing to the ref. The straight red given after he was dragged away could only be for extreme verbal from him as he was facing away.

Alexander said he asked the ref about it and the ref had no choice! and it was a straight red

“It was quite far behind me and I didn’t really get it because there was no real animosity in the game between the two teams. It wasn’t bubbling over.

“Then as the players came past, Sam Walker said that Aden had been sent off.

“I spoke to the referee at the start of the second half what happened and it was the only course of action that he could take.”

On whether he feels let down, he added: “Yeah, I’ll be honest yeah. It was something we’ve spoken about this week especially and with three or four senior players.
Surprised no one has picked up on Alexander’s quotes in paragraph 2 and 3. Alexander came straight towards the ref as he was pulling a red card, waving his arms as if to plead not to ‘do it’. He was totally aware of the incident and was talking to the ref there and then. Why is he talking garbage?
I think that was one of his assistants RiS - one of the staff was definitely trying to calm the ref, but think GA had already gone back in.
Got yer! Thanks for the correction.

Correct as above, it was the keeper coach I think. Interesting to see the comments from the manager and some players, who have all called him out - some fans don’t think he will come back in to the team if they miss out on autos and have to play in the play offs, it seems he has burnt a few bridges with his actions.

Wasn’t it Heffernan under SOD who got a red in a playoff game, rarely played after that until he left.

Yes. He head butted a Southend player in the first leg.

Ironically when SOD was forced to play him due to injury he couldn't stop scoring in the second half of the season, fired us to automatic promotion form and comfortable survival after we looked dead and buried before christmas.

Indeed, SoD picked Guy ahead of Heffs until Christmas the following season but had to bring Heffs back into the team and he showed his quality from there on in.

Hardly a headbutt Bob. I think that their heads were already touching when he moved his head forward. A stupid and unnecessary action especially at the end of a game where you are in the box seat.

I know.
What would you have called it in your referees report?

SOD was not happy with him at all, and he really dug his heels in, I think it was maybe injuries that eventually forced his hand but it will have been through gritted teeth he allowed him to play.
A shame as Heffs was the most clinical finisher I have seen, I would say more clinical than Billy

A coming together Bob. Certainly not in the Glasgow kiss league.
