TV broadcasting money
« on May 01, 2025, 04:02:17 am by graingrover »
This data is provided by Chat GPT Plus .
For the 2024/25 season:
   •   Each League One club received approximately £1.7 million in combined central payments (Basic Award + Solidarity Payment), plus around £400,000 extra from the new TV deal → so about £2.1 million total per club for league-related TV and central funding.
   •   Each League Two club received about £1.15 million in central payments, plus an extra £200,000 from the TV deal → so about £1.35 million total per club for league-related TV and central funding.

So the total distributed across the whole division:
   •   League One: 24 clubs × ~£2.1 million = ~£50.4 million total
   •   League Two: 24 clubs × ~£1.35 million = ~£32.4 million total

So if Rovers get 1.35 mill of tv money, how much prize money on top of that do they get if they win the league 2 title?

Or indeed are we guaranteed for a second place finish - obviously we all want to win the league

Unless it’s changed in recent years the club get nothing.

I’ve heard it said the money each promoted club “wins” is the same, they do get different size trophies though - apparently.

If true it’s a bit of a shame, there should always be something a little bit more.

So in total, the whole of League One and League Two put together will be less than half of what the winners of the Premier League get. And about two thirds of what the bottom team relegated from the Premier League will receive.

The financial value of winning the EFL League Two play-off is derived from the additional remuneration clubs receive in League One. As of 2020, clubs in League One receive around £675,000 from the Premier League as a "core club" payment compared to £450,000 in League Two. The winners of the final receive a trophy.

Additionally we get around £600,000 from the PL for allowing their U21 teams to take part in the FL Trophy.

Remember meet the owner events where they said they needed to be in league 1 to make the sustainable model work? Wonder if we will see a return to this next season? I would like to think not because grant surely had assurances when he came back

Grant has already issued a couple of warning shots in some interviews about his team will be competitive, and he is not there, and hopes nobody thinks he is there to make up the numbers. He has a good relationship with the top men from what I see, they seem to be on the same path, so I think we will be fine.
