No point getting promoted, if the club isn’t serious about competing . We have to be looking to sign him if the fee is reasonable. He has been very important to how we have turned this season around. Grant discovered him as a player about halfway through the season. Without him we wouldn’t have won the league. The team looks dangerous from all angles.

We badly need a midfield general in there who can run the game. Young Crew is capable of that, we need at least a loan for both players. We need a striker as well as that. Cut loose fringe players who aren’t quite good enough. Most of the players you would retain. If Olowu goes then he would need replacing.

It’s about using the funds well that are given. Overall this season again Grant has brought in some shrewd signings and has been backed by the board. The backing will need to go up a notch to compete in league one. No messing about you need to aim for another promotion.

We will get an increase of £ 600,000 in TV fees .However Lincoln paid £400.000 for Rob Street  he has three years to run on his  existing contract with them .That is a big ask to expect us to buy that deal out!

Sure they only paid £60k for him?

I think it’s possible but it’s what cuts we’d have to make elsewhere I suppose.

Start the whip round now. Favourite loan since Sharp

What if Street has bought into McCann’s vision and doesn’t want to go back to Lincoln? Perhaps a deal will struck to get a permanent deal at Rovers.
He left Lincoln because he was well down the pecking order, what if that is the case?
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Street at Rovers. I’m sure Terry would want him back on a permanent.

Lincoln hold all the cards and rightly so, they have the foresight and ambition to go and invest in good young players to develop. Him being here is all part of that process.

I wish we did it more.

Take your point. Time will tell. Has McCann turned his enough that he wants to come back to Rovers, agree he wouldn’t be cheap, but if he won us another promotion, what financial prize would that be?

Good post match interview by GM , states he's already spoken to GB and we're not going to be there just to make up the numbers next season. Looking to bring players in for a promotion push.

It reminds me of the situation with Sharp on loan. I assumed after the loan that Sheff U would probably want to keep Sharp but they were happy to sell a proven goal scorer. I'm praying the situation with Street turns out the same.

Little to no chance. His stock has gone up after he has been with us. Would imagine quite a few other clubs will be having a sniff. Realistically you would assume he is in the 600/800k bracket now

This (the thread title) is not such as daft question really.
Five thousand supporters chuck in £100 each raises half a million quid which would go a long way towards securing his signature.

Finding 5,000 fans to throw in £100 is a tall order. I would pitch in myself.

Much as I understand all the enthusiasm to keep Street, I trust in Grant to find another player just as good for next season. I have absolute faith in McCann, and never mind the players, HE is the best signing at Doncaster.

Would love to keep him but we are shopping at a different level now. In L2 there won’t be anyone better but in L1 there’ll be out of contract players of a similar calibre.

Shows the value in investing in young players rather than just loaning a quick fix. Lincoln have benefited from our improving to Street. We got a cheap player that pushed us on for 5 months. We’re now looking for a fix again just like last summer. Hope we invest in permanent players next season.

At L1 we are just as big a club as Lincoln, maybe bigger, if Street like it here and they are reasonable on price it’s really not a step down for him to join us!

The best thing to support TB & GM is buying season memberships.

At the presentation ceremony even the players were singing, sign him up. If there's a will, there's a way.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if after his performances a top league one or even lower half of championship wouldn't take a chance on him

I’m sorry for this…I love billy, another year would be great…but in the grand scheme of things I would sacrifice Billy’s high wage to pay for street…long term plan.

Is Sharp on a high wage.?

I agree with some of the points above, whilst it would be ideal to have Street back, there will be other decent players out there we could sign.  Same for the ‘keeper.

We can’t always just hope for players we already know..

Our record under GM is 2 play off semis, one championship title, with match winning loanees supplementing a decent league-level squad.  Can’t see an issue with the same approach next season.

Can’t see any chance we would be able to sign him, reckon Lincoln could well have a million price tag on him.
There are bound to be some championship clubs which have noted his progress with us, don’t forget palace offered him a deal last year, so definitely will not have been unnoticed by clubs at a higher level.

I can’t see Lincoln valuing him at a million. He has had a great half season with us - no doubt about it. But the fact that he was loaned out at all suggests they saw him as disposable then. I think we could go in at around 300k and have that offer taken fairly seriously.

As others have posted above, should we have to let Billy go to free up additional funds I think that is a worthwhile descision. We need to be in the market for players who are still improving while still able to perform at the level we need to compete in the division.

We have been so much more effective as a side with the system implemented since Street has been deployed through the middle, and in a league where teams will play a high press against space up top for the counter will be key. The system we have in place now also means Ironside should be moved on imo

Worth noting during the Presentation ceremony towards the end of 18Dappers VLOG the reaction when Street raises the trophy.

https://youtu.be/u2v8mlyFSbo?si=BnzOa6_oSEUprrz2

As fans and players sing "Sign him up" watch Cliff Byrne on the left of the shot, point across to where TB and GB were stood.

Now we shouldn’t get our hopes up but you just never know in football. It means alot to footballers to be wanted and find a home where they're welcomed by fans and players alike.

Also worth noting the affinity between McCann and Patrick Kelly displaying the Irish flag. I wouldn't necessarily see PK as a pick for a returning loanee but maybe McCann might see him as one of his next development projects.

I'd rather we brought Crew back out of the 2 CMs.

Ah yes good ol Charlie, not sure how many times its happened but essentially he won 2 league winners medals in the same day. Although not sure if his 1 appearance for Leeds this season qualifies him for one?

Odd that players of our own after having a good spell of form are worth millions and yet players we would hope to sign ar relatively worth peanuts.

With Lincoln being fairly close to Donny RS probably would not have to recolate on joining us. Among other things this could be imported to RS and his family.

When he was made as the 'statement signing' most of us were baffled, me included.

If we don't sign him GM will unearth another diamond.

Unsure on his contract at the time but Langstaff scored a heap of goals in L2 and went from Notts to Millwall for £700k and was even a bit older.

Street is a far more complete striker than him too.

You’d be looking at A LOT of money.
