The club is going to get some serious investment now Becks and Neville. It is said they want to do a Wrexham.

Nev and Becks have “raised $15m-$20m to invest over the next 5 years”. To get to the Championship. I’m pretty sure they are losing £5m a year treading water in L2, so I’m not sure how that will work.

Let's be fair, the Salford area is not a hot bed for football.

Not in Salford City.

And what I really meant was the area around Salfords ground.

They don't have a historical fanbase or catchment area like Wrexham. They've had ample opportunity before but they weren't prepared or bold enough to make their Salford project sexy.

Even with Beckham on board they're not going to generate the same interest, even before recruiting the players and manager to take them there.

I thought Beckham and Neville had been involved for a while and that they'd simply increased their holding with the others leaving?

The major shareholder was Peter Lim, with the 92 all being investors. There has effectively been a buyout of all existing shareholders by a new consortium of nine investors. Within those nine investors are Beckham and Gary Neville but the other seven are all serious people. There will be money there but the investors are highly credible commercial people who will be looking to generate organic revenue streams. There is clearly room for a third club in Manchester (I know they are in Salford not Manchester) that can ride on coattails of the other two sides. They just not had the wherewithal to put that together commercially. These new investors are aiming to do that.

$15m will get them nowhere.

Yes, that wasn't the point though. The point was the diametric opposite. The new investors are commercial people able to build a commercial offer around a third club in Manchester. That is marketing, brand and profile. It's not about spending huge sums on inorganic progression through talent acquisition alone. I assume that is what various people have tried to do with Tranmere over the years, the third club in a big footballing city theoretically has an opening. Not that easy though.

Good shout re Tranmere…. However watch this space…..
Surprised Neville didn’t help out his home town club, 12,000 capacity, won the FA cup twice and not a million miles from Manchester…

They have put together a 5 year plan to get to the Championship. If they are doing it in a more organic fashion their time scale is incorrect.
