Thought we might have had a statement from Joseph by now

I was just thinking the same. Unless he's concerned he might get some backlash.

Think he’s probably still facing up to reality that he’s leaving us. When talking to him he went very quiet when the subject was mentioned, whilst he couldn’t confirm he was leaving it seemed like the decision had been very difficult for him, he came close to showing his emotions which would have given the game away.
Personally we said to him that if he was leaving, majority of fans would appreciate his time with us and whilst there would be huge disappointment, would treat him with respect.
His reaction was incredible and again not sure how he held things back, but he was lengthy in saying just how much he enjoyed his interactions with our fans.
Guessing he will give us insight to his decision once he has sorted out whichever club he joins, he’s that type of guy.

Was hoping he would stay.

Wish him all the best for his future in the game wherever that may be.

Have to say he ‘grew’ as a player especially this season.

Good luck Joseph Olowu. I shall remember you every time I wear your away shirt from this season.

From the looks of his Instagram over the last few days Joe lead the worship last night at the church he has founded in Peckham.

This seems to be very important for him. I would be surprised if he didn't sign for a team with a locality that allowed him to continue attending his church.

I've said it for a while but IMO the move was about getting home and his new church. Not about money or level of football.

All the best to the lad.

So no chance he'd go to Charlton?

Just imagine if he was waiting to see if they made it to the Championship! Now they haven’t, many ifs and buts, but you never know ! Football is a strange game.

I was just thinking the same. Unless he's concerned he might get some backlash.

Players don’t often say their thanks to their previous club and it’s fans on social media until they’ve signed for the new club.

Also, I’m sure he’ll have more than one option on the table.

Notice Bailey now has squad number 4. https://x.com/drfc_official/status/1928168270827307361?t=cxh8fyRBoeA3m9e8lPKrrA&s=19

Does that mean Bailey is becoming a full time centre back? Is it worth reading into squad numbers in this day and age?

Number 4 is often worn by a defensive midfielder…but equally I wouldn’t read anything into it.

Shame Olowu is leaving, I thought he was developing really well with us. I think another season or two would have done both parties good.

It wasn’t when he had let his contract run down, a shame, a good player.

Thanks for this. I’ve always seen 5 and 6 as the CB’s and 4 as the CDM. I’m not sure how it originated that way, maybe an old English thing as the National team tend to stick with that, but more and more they call a deep lying midfield playmaker a 6 as often happens these days. Telling that McGrath has chosen that number.

Do shirt numbers ‘mean’ anything but to the supporters in this day & age?

Trent Alexander at shirt No.66 kind of made a statement at Liverpool. What number shirt would he ‘request’ at Real Madrid?

At International level of course you are allocated your ‘shirt squad number’.

At ‘our level’ we still have shirt numbers that are ‘ sacrosanct’ to Copps at #26 yet when Billy Sharp ‘came back’ to the club, he ‘settled’ for #14 because Sbarra had ‘claimed’ the #10 shirt, (sorry but you should have offered it back to Billy, imo Joe).

So, Joe Ironside is happy I presume with the No.20 shirt he has worn since the day he signed for the club & has no designs on claiming the present vacant No.9 shirt.

So clearly I’ve answered my own question, or have I?

No.26 is iconic to Copps & to the Rovers supporters who watched him develop & ‘grow into that shirt number’.

I can’t think of any shirt number in the Rovers history that ‘holds so much cudos’ to one player than that.

Billy Sharp says as a player ''you always want to be in those 1 to 11 numbers''.

He found wearing number 5 a bit odd, but not as strange as the number 27 they gave to him at LA Galaxy. He got his head around being given 14 because that was the age of one of his kids at the time.

So it clearly means something to Billy.

Personally really dissapointed about this.

Could understand him going down south to be near home and his church etc. To sign for them.

Guessing money and/or duration was the kicker maybe, signed for 3yrs we offered 2yr.

Dissappointed

1000% it will be money. But that's just the game we're in. All the players we've signed this season will be because we've offered better terms than other clubs. And Stockport will have offered him significantly more than we will have been able to. Hes had plenty of injuries and the pay bump will be enough to give him an extra bit of security, you imagine.
