York v Oldham

York getting tonked at home 3-0

They've not been in the game at all, barely a chance and when they have made something the finish hasn't been there.  Cameron John still runs like Bambi.

Absolute sickener, when they finished in second, 23 points ahead of Oldham.

The first goal they gave away was shocking from the goalie and then by the defender

Gutted for York. It’s shambolic it’s been 2 weeks since their last league game.

I didn’t realise but Gary Brabin is the assistant manager at Oldham. It would be great to see him back in the EFL and also be fun to resume our annual cup match with Oldham

How the bloody hell have I missed that? I looked through the sports channels last night and couldn't see anything.

What channel was it on?

Oldham v Southend for a place in league 2 after the latter beat Forest Green on pens.

Both teams deserve to be back in the league imo, so good luck to them

Oldham 2nd highest attendance in NL (6300), Southend highest (7300) and York third (6100). The rest 3300 down to 1100 with Champions Barnet 2300!!

That’s irrelevant.

It’s about time they had two automatic promotion slots from the NL.

A far cry from when we were there.

Yes, there's alot of lobbying going on to get that second automatic slot. Some clubs do have good fanbases to support League football, particularly the ex league teams. Some others might struggle but in effect, it's becoming League Three.

Watching that game Cameron John is still not a left back! Awful defending for Oldham's 3rd.

So the clear runners up once again produced a  shocker of a result just like last season but a mere 0-3 this time

I suppose you could argue either way. Ultimately that course eliminates Play-offs altogether. I agree that the Leagues below the EFL seem to over-indulge in play-offs, but was the system imposed on them or did they agree to it? I suspect the latter.

No - I mean two automatic promotion places and the play offs as well.  Regardless of whether we agree with them or not, they are here to stay.

Three up, three down.

In the same argument it’s probably about time to make the league1/league2 relegation/promotion 3 up and down instead of the current 4.

I could be wrong, but I think the concept of 4 up 4 down goes back to when the old first and second divisions had 22 teams, and only the 3rd and 4th had 24.?

Either that or have 4 up 4 down between the championship and league 1.?

When we had the 3rd Division North the 3rd Division South until the early 60s, it was 1 up from each and 2 down from the old Division 2. In the 50s Rovers were promoted alongside Nottingham Forest who were 3rd Division South Champions. Back then, teams in the Midlands quite often had to shuffle between 3rd Division North to South to equalise the numbers.

I remember a season not too long ago when Bishops Stortford were put Nat LN, they complained about the amount of travelling they would have to do, nothing was done about it, it was no surprise that they were relegated that season.

Hereford are in Nat LN as well, Les. Quite a bit of travelling for them.

Merthyr town from South Wales can beat that! They'll be in the National League North next season too after a promotion.
Can't imagine how they'd make it work practically with the players being semi-pro.
