Public Need. Private Greed
« on May 23, 2025, 04:07:04 pm by BobG »
Thought I'd share what a long standing friend has penned:

The government receives the heartfelt thanks of a grateful nation

For selling it some shares and the untold benefits of privatisation

As leaky water companies pump their filthy sewage into our rivers

You can rest assured that greed and a free market always delivers

While energy deficient companies inflate their dividends and profits

Consumers starve to keep warm and empty out their frozen pockets

As the mail gets lost in dividends, sub-postmasters stand accused

Public sector workers, doctors and nurses, get pilloried and abused

The courts are adjourned for lack of barristers, and criminals rejoice

Travelling abroad by plane, train or ferry is hostage to Brexit’s choice

We give thanks for tax cuts that feed public need and private greed

The decaying carcass on which only hedge funds and vultures feed

I’ve been to a few McGonagall suppers in the 1990s.  Some were quite hunourous but of course the more toasts that were made the less you cared. It aways seemed strange starting the meal with your desert though.
