Has the resident doom monger In the box got anything to say?
Will this mean Gibson getting moved on as I agree with “The Dave” do we need another winger but we do need central defender's x3 and a Keeper oh yes a striker or two  . But a good signing none the less the right age .

Eh? Why would we? The only proper wingers at the club are moly/gibson and now Middleton. Not having Kyle hurst or Sbarra out wide at all. Not at league one level. I actually agree I think we will pick up a loan later in the window that can also play out wide. I can see hurst being moved on

Doesn’t GM always play left footers on the right and right footers on the left. Job share with Moly would be my guess.

Even though Gibson was not as effective as Moly who had the benefit of working with Sterry more or less the whole season, our main attacking threat did come down the wings for most of last season. The combination of Middleton or Gibson plus a fully fit Maxwell could make the threat from the left equally strong. Doubling up on Molyneux would then leave the opposition vulnerable on the other flank. Maybe Gibson might be tried in a forward midfield role.

For as good has moly has been a big part of that has been down to sterry behind him. Our left side has been more unstable with players coming in and out

Would he be at his best being obliged to switch wings? And would it be sensible to to recruit a first-team quality player as cover for our  best player who would have to be rested/dropped to allow him to play? It would be a luxury which would not make sense.

This lad is two footed so work that one out. He can work on either flank - no problem.

Good luck to the lad, he seems to be very useful and adaptable so fits the GM model, maybe the chance to play Championship football lured him in!

He also knows Gibbo and Maxy, to quote him.

They wanted to keep him, so it looks like a bit of a coup this one - https://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/news/8926/GLENN-MIDDLETON-DEPARTS-FOR-DONCASTER-ROVERS.html

TBF - the fans don't seem that bothered..... time will tell and in Grant we trust..

2 players Grant wanted in his first spell so far. Talk about delayed gratification.

Could be a good signing this and Glenn sounds like a good lad too. He chose not to sign a contract up there when they wanted him and he was sold on the idea of coming down here.

More signings to come in the next few weeks too by the sounds of it. GM really is on a mission here to finish what he started

This appears to be a really smart signing, played at a good level, helps his team to European qualification, quick, two footed and looks physically very strong. I like it!!

Looks like we are signing talented lads at good ages that have already played a lot of football.

Let’s hope the next few that follow are similar types.

Unreal signing if he plays consistently to the levels he's capable of could see him becoming one of the best signings of the last few seasons.

Do we need another winger ?

Yes.

Middleton and Gibson can also cover no.10 position.

Loan out Hurst and Sbarra (neither L1 standard) and get another wide player in and we’re laughing.

Sounds like an exciting signing and he comes over as a good lad in his interview.
If Grant’s been tracking him and chasing his signature that will do for me.

Welcome to Donny Glenn!

Sounds like a really good signing. Grant has followed this players career since his first stint as manager here. Signing him now when listening to Grant & Glenn’s interviews & looking at Dundee Utd’s website,

A. Grant sees him as a player who he can add goals to his game as he has done with Mols.

B. Glenn has done his homework on us. To leave a team where he was always going to be on the team sheet & with the lure of playing European Football yet give that up after 3 seasons with them, speaks volumes of how Grant has sold DRFC to him & the fact that Championship football is our aim.

C. We can’t have enough competition in wide areas where Grant sees as a focal point to the team & the ethos of how he wants us to play & exploit opposition defences with pace & directness. Those who see this signing as a replacement for Gibson need to wake up.

No D. Just looking forward to our next acquisition which I think will be a keeper before moving on to that No.9 berth.

Last season proved that we need two players for each position, the substitute bench just as important as the starters, because of the pace we try to play our own game at, and injuries that came at an important time of last season, and the ones that came in did the business and got us over the line by improving the defence as a unit less likely to give goals away.
The teams that did well against us were the teams that didn't let us play at a high tempo and upset our game plan.
The last ten games on paper were our hardest games in the run in, with games against quite a few teams around us at the top of the league where the points difference was tight and a lot of jousting for final positions.
That suited our game as they also had to play for the most part an expansive game and commit to going forward and stretching the play.
Our strength in depth and being able to put fresh legs on  in the last half hour of the game was a big reason for our end of season success as rarely could the other side match our pace and covering of the ground at that stage of the game, and players like Sbarra with his direct running and energy in that period was important, Senior another who provided energy at times.
The odd team we struggled with like Wimbledon used the tactical foul and stop start tactic with the keeper and set pieces, we played the squad game better than other teams who in most cases when they put multiple substitutes on didn't have the same class of player in numbers and their standards dropped from their opening team selections, whereas we in most games got a shot in the arm especially energy wise. and little change in the calibre of player on the pitch.
Being at a higher standard this coming season therefore means we have to try and get players for positions we are short in, central defence, keeper, striker and they must be as good or better than we have and capable of being starters all over the pitch as we are at a better level and will be in trouble with any drop in standards.
Some of the fans favourites from last season might have to come to terms with an alteration in the pecking order as the players signed will hopefully not be coming here to make the numbers up and such as Flint could well come into the managers thoughts.

Nice to see we are looking towards Scotland for signings as well, I think the development of players is in a rich vein at the moment.
Looking at the Dundee utd forum, a few saying he was on good wages there so it will help getting him off the wage bill.

Apparently his final delivery can be a bit inconsistent, but they think he is still improving as a player. Scored a few crackers for them, one in the Europa league was mentioned.
For me we need plenty of creative players. We’ve gone up a rung on the ladder. Defenders are more competent at stopping you scoring every level you go up.

We lost Street as he was a loan player, maybe Grant is looking at a few players to replace his influence. Doing it a different way but being more dangerous attacking wise. We need a competitive squad, this is a guy who has played in front of big crowds, experienced Europa league football. Only twenty five, so some experience but not anywhere near over the hill or a kid. Could be a good signing this one.

Finally, we haven’t signed another lightweight winger.

Really were just encouraging McCanns stalking. First Gotts who he'd be watching for a few years and now 6 years of stalking of Middleton.

Grant does like to play the long game.

Does that signing mean no Wilks?

Does that end that possibility if it was ever on the cards
