Died aged 82.I'm absolutely devastated. One of my musical heroes of all time.I'll be playing "Warmth of the Sun" all tonight.RIP Brian.
Although the tune to Sloop John B being sung by just about every set of away fans in the country doesn't appear to have had such an effect on them!
Obviously Brian was an exceptionally talented songwriter.I've listened to his music but I can't make myself love it. I tend to go along with Noel Gallagher. I'm not a big fan of close harmony barber shop singing and it's probably true that because Paul McCartney rated it so highly and it influenced him, the Beach Boys became more respected than they otherwise would. Also because we had to sing Sloop John B at middle school, it probably put me off them.God only knows and Good Vibrations though. Amazing work.RIP.

Amazing work.RIP.RD.If you have a spare half hour, this video gives an insight into Wilson's genius.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5kaeJmEoXMCards on the table: I can't play a note and I cannot read music. I know precious little about music theory. But the first time I heard The Warmth of the Sun, I knew it was something very special. That video explains how Wilson came up with a chord progression that had never been used before. It shouldn't have worked, but it was his genius to make it into a work of art. The fact it was composed in reaction to his emotions on the day of Kennedy's assassination makes the whole story semi-legendary.
