Blackpool at Home it is!..

Last friendly of ours to be played against Blackpool, seems a strange fixture to say they’re in our league.

To be played 26th July

I guess that they know that we’ll not be playing them at the beginning of the season.

As long as we’re ready the first game that’s all that matters.

But the most depressing pre season ever on paper.

Some very unimaginative friendlies but like you say as long as we're good to go that's the most important thing. Got some great away fixtures to look forward to this season.

I guess even games against the bigger clubs aren't well attended so it doesn't massively matter as long as they're fit for the season starting.  Lots of us will have holidays anyway over summer.

I was only looking forward to the double header friendlies anyway, proper way to get the footy fix.

There is a revenue raising benefit to the larger sides (although presume for many of them we have to pay them) but otherwise it is far far better to be playing sides that prepare us well for the coming season. In almost all circumstances that will not be a Premier League side. I’d stack the attractiveness of who we are playing pre-season alongside what the kit looks like as total irrelevances.

They are all essentially training sessions and not games. I stopped attending them a few years ago, it is only a month or so to wait for a proper game!

I couldn’t give a toss who we play pre season, they’re not competitive games and I haven’t been to one for years, and that was because it was convenient to collect my ST and buy a shirt.  Think it was when Sven brought Man City to the KM.

If you want competitive pre season games, do the EFL Trophy group phase in July.

There is more to them than just a game, its about set up, rhythm, and importantly team work within a system of play.
If you just want one team to win the normal league standard game , and the thrill those games generate and  can't see the deeper reasons for games in preseason they are not the games for you, and that's not intentionally disrespectful I get it, with no competitive edge apart for the players trying to get the shirt its not the usual fix we all get from every league game, the ones that leave you completely deflated or on top of the world for a week, and we take to the key board on here to show joy or frustration.
The players get fitter, slowly build up understanding with new players, the ones those there are keen to see, and the management teams watch them like a hawk, and they are the ones who get the most out of those games.

Has the rule that you can play a team in your own division in a friendly been scrapped then?  Can't say I've heard that it has.

It would be a bit of a bugger if our first match of the season is versus Blackpool and we draw them in the League Cup first round, both at home

I wonder how much thought goes into planning the out of season fixture schedule? Any thought go into the standard of team we play when? What styles of teams we want to play? Etc etc

As it looks like a very subdued  preseason  for the supporters and not playing any Championship or Premier League clubs  ,I can only assume that there’s a method to this from Grant and maybe he’s just keeping things under wraps for the big kickoff ..
