Faulkner update
« on July 09, 2025, 10:44:46 am by selby »
Played the second half for Harrogate v Guiseley in a not so friendly friendly with players squaring up to each other on more than one occasion.
The game ended 1-0 to Harrogate the team they fielded in the second half looking the stronger side. The game was 100mph helta skelta with nobody having time on the ball but open and end to end so entertaining Guiseley looking a good side and missed chances especially in the first half when they were the better side, both keepers making really good saves along with wasteful finishing.
Both teams made changes at half time Bobby came on with another new central defender alongside him and they both played very well, won nearly every header and solid and looked dangerous in the opponents box from set pieces Bobby scorning a good chance when heading over the bar from close range after a rebound came to him, a sharp chance but should have put away.
That apart he looked fast strong and fit, some sweeping up tackles wide showed his speed and strength in the tackle, and his heading clearances as ever he won repetitively.
In the last minute he bravely cleared a dangerous cross bravely taking a heavy knock in the process a ball most players would have not had the speed and athleticism to do a fantastic clearance keeping the clean sheet.
All round a good performance Radio Leeds copping him for an interview as he left the field at the end and the manager after game interview being complimentary, a good nights work, and a nice pint in the cricket bar.
Buxton also beat a Barnsley team 3-1 who played for Barnsley I don't know but nice to see his old side last season set off  well.

Nice one Bobby. If he carries on like that we might recall him sooner rather than later.

Northants Nomad, I was harsh, I  didn't use the word Brilliant in a radio interview, the Harrogate manager did along with other praises like Doncaster Steel and he plays like his life depends on it, his words not mine there for you to listen to.
But some have asked to be kept up with his progress so i will carry on posting if I go to a game and say what I think of the players, the same as I do when I watch the Rovers good or bad.
I have never posted about anyone I have not seen though.

There’s a Video on Harrogates X page which shows Bobby doing a last ditch good header while getting clattered by an opponent from a cross in the 6 yard box.

SSB also had a great game for Peterborough Sports bagged a goal and looked miles above anybody on the pitch Deeping rangers aren't exactly the best opposition to judge him on but looked miles above anybody else on the pitch. Can see him being well within himself in the NLN could easily step up definitely think he's going to be a gem in the future

This one?

Have to say I was a bit disappointed with that given how it was bigged up. He did get clattered but looked a pretty routine headed clearance before the lad came into him from behind.

Sounds like a good performance though. Really hoping he cements a first team place and we can see how he gets on at League Two level.

Just a routine header and the striker left a bit on him. I'm not sure which pro football wouldn't have the speed or athleticism for

Ouch.

Good to hear the reports. Won't be long before we see much more of Bobby on highlights every week so we can make more of a reasonable judgement about his progress. Sounds promising.

Thanks Selby. Hopefully Faulkner will get to be a regular starter for Harrogate and put in a few MoM performances. That's all he can do - and presumably what our management are looking for.

A good header but slightly over-hyped there.

It will be good to get updates on Bobby’s progress but I hope they don’t start to irritate people.

The constant witch hunt is pathetic. Like f**king kiddies bullying in playground.

If some of you don't like Selbys posts about Bobby you can move on, you don't HAVE to post a reply belittling them. I was brought up with the mantra if you have nowt good to say then say nowt.

Christ. If you don't think the updates are right don't read them. Or better still go watch and form your own opinion.

Ryaldinhio, its part of the fun like feeding goldfish and watching them go for the floaters.
The best part is it's true he is smashing it.

Selby, thanks for the report and keep them coming!!

I'd be interested in hearing in how he's doing (even if he was an ex-rover) but he's still a Rovers player and we should all have interest

Big fan of Faulkner, this loan is a super opportunity for him and a great one to develop our players at another club. Who’d have thought not long ago we’d be loaning players to L2 Clubs, shows the depth we now have.
More than happy for updates on any of our loaned out players and thanks to those who take time out to keep us updated.

Me too. If I don't agree I can choose to disregard what Selby reports - as all the silly buggers on here could do too rather than posting juvenile crap. So carry on please Selby.

I’m always well happy to get Selby’s updates on these younger lads coming through or on the fringes of the squad. Donkeys years ago I’d get down to Cantley and see the juniors but like many I’m hours away from Donny now and I’ll never see these lads until the day they’re making short appearances from the bench or being given an opportunity in early rounds of the FL Trophy.

There's a bit of pearl clutching here over not a lot IMHO.

I think the updates are great but when somethings described as "he bravely cleared a dangerous cross bravely taking a heavy knock in the process a ball most players would have not had the speed and athleticism to do a fantastic clearance" and there's video evidence showing there to be a sizeable chunk of poetic licence in that then there's nothing wrong with it being called out in the hope of a bit more realism in future updates!

The Selby account contributes many many words on this forum but there is an awful lot of prejudice in there. Nothing wrong at all with what gets posted and I'm sure all genuine Rovers fans want the academy to produce good young players with plenty of potential but with regards the Selby account you have to read between the lines.

Probably the most reasonable post in the thread for me. Think all of us are interested in Faulkner as he's probably the best genuine youth team prospect we've had since James Husband. Everyone wants him to become a fixture in the first team and potentially our next million pound plus player.

But people want to hear genuinely how he's doing, and the updates stop being useful when they're describing a routine headed clearance as some Baresi-style feat of superhuman defending.

I haven't seen the replay as don't have X at all, and as he did more than one clearance I have no idea if its the one I saw in real time, as he and everyone else got clattered after playing the ball on a regular basis  and he was no saint himself in the game.
For those interested he got nutted in the cheek bone in the incident I was referring to,  and has the bruising to prove it.

The apparent rib tickling isn’t funny though, nothing above has made me smile let alone laugh, it’s dull and negative.
More than happy to read something funny, and have a good chuckle, so please go ahead, tickle me ribs…. Do a funny…
